Alertusbstorage For Intenal Hard Disk
« on: June 24, 2005, 05:05:12 am »
Hello,

how comes I always get an AlertUSBStorage error mssage and no working connection from a PC, if I set PC Link to Storage / Internal hard disk, but if I set it to Storage / SD card, the connection is established nicely and the PC can access the SD card without problems?

Rebooting both the Z and the PC doesn't help.

Thanks

Just had an idea what the reason could be:

When I set Storage to SD or CF, I see a short "Ejected" message appearing on the screen if I connect USB. That seems to mean, the card is ejected from the actul system and instead used exclusively for the USB connection.

However, I have set some apps (KDEPIM etc.) to use /hdd3/Documents/... as their data storage path, i.e. these paths may be used all the time thus umounting / ejecting media could fail. That might cause such an error message.

KDEPIM applications are always kind of active due to fastload, so closing them might not help, in case they are really the reason.

What do you think?
How can I solve that problem?

Would it help to set the apps to use /home/zaurus/kdepim etc. and only create a link from there to /hdd3/Douments?

Thanks

daniel

Yep when you use the z as a card reader the card you have selected becomes opaque (ie it can't see it and thinks it's been ejected) to the z until you unplug the usb cable. Bloody annoying in a very small way and usually easy to get round. If you're running apps from an sd card shut them down before selecting that as the usb option, or just copy what you want to a cf card from the computer and then copy across on the z itself.

Don't think there's going to be a workaround as it seems to be a hardware related thing. But who knows :-)
