Question About Maslovsky's Memory Monitor Plugin
« on: July 01, 2005, 06:57:29 am »
If I open the swapfile tab and forget to choose a location (HDD, CF, SD), but press "Generate", the progress bar jumps quickly to 100%, so I assume it really creates a swapfile somewhere. but: where?

I'd like to know where I have to look for this 128MB file I just created. ;-)

Thanks

I think if you don't select a location then the swap file isn't generated. Hence the rapid movement to 100%.

To check if the swap file has been created in some top secret area try
Code: [Select]
find / -name .swapfilein the console. If you aren't root it will complain about "permission denied" on a few folders (mostly in /proc/)
If it doesn't come back with a path containing .swapfile then it don't exist.

Question About Maslovsky's Memory Monitor Plugin
« Reply #2 on: July 26, 2005, 10:51:51 pm »
Is there anyway to set the swap file location manually? The "SD Card" Swapfile location option automatically creates the swapfile at /mnt/card/swapfile. However, I would like to put the swapfile someplace other than the top of my SD directory, such as /mnt/card/QtPalmtop/swapfile.
I see that the program creates a conf file called "MemoryPlugin.conf". All it contains is "[Warning levels]". Is there a way to set the location of the swapfile within this conf file?

Daniel what version of his app are you running? Max size on mine is 64Mb. I don't have my Z in front of me so I don't know what version I installed, though this was the package name, qtopia-memoryapplet-cxxxx-1.0_arm.ipk.

But even at 64Mb, it doesn't seem to help me with my problem of being able to open jpgs. I have some pictures of my Dad's watch that are 2+Mb, but the largest jpg I've been able to open so far with VisualQ is 607Kb. I din't think it's maslovsky's app at fault, but rather something in VisualQ. On the larger files it tells me the byte count, but says the picture is 0 pixels high and 0 pixels wide. Strange.

Question About Maslovsky's Memory Monitor Plugin

yeah of course you created the file.............but do you know if you enabled it?  when i activate it, my memory drops so i see the icon in the lower right hand conrer empty....not full.  maybee you enabled one in your internal drive.

you can open up an image when you enable the swap file.

i have 3.8 megapixle images.

without memory applet, i get an error from memory being full.  with it enabled, i dont have that problem.

now if you are using visualq, visual q has a problem with some jpeg images.  Im not sure but someone mentioned it could be related to pal or ntsc with i kinda dont believe.  I think its related to certain sizes visualq has a problem with.

the directory where the swapfile is created on is for example

/mnt/card/swapfile

or

/mnt/cf/swapfile

if you dont see a white file with swapfile on the top directory of your sd or cf, its not enabled at all.....

you need to read that readme file i added to the zip file.  tells you how to set it up.  if you are going to eject card, disable swap file, and unmount it from the icons in the lower right hand corner.

Cresho,
I think you might be mixing up posts. Then again maybe you're just answering both at once.

Daniel was wondering about the location of his swapfile, and whether or not he actually created one.

I was the one wondering what version of the memory applet he was able to create a 128Mb swapfile with, as the version I installed for my Sharp ROM apparently only allows 64Mb max.

The version of VisualQ I have is 0.5.6. I'm not using pal or ntsc to the best of my knowledge, and I agree with you in that it seems to be a VQ issue and not the swapfile. Unfortunately VQ does not give me an error message, it just shows an empty palette, with H:0 W:0 on the lower left, and under File -> Information it says 0 pixels wide and 0 pixels high, but with a byte size of 2+Mb. Strange.

Thanks,

gdog

Question About Maslovsky's Memory Monitor Plugin
« Reply #6 on: July 30, 2005, 10:54:35 pm »
There are two versions of this program.
The first is the official version created by Maslovsky that is available at the Cacko website. The icons have been optimized for VGA display, and it allows swap files at the max of 32MB.

qtopia-memoryapplet_1.0.1arm.ipk

The second is a modified version by a Japanese developer based on version 1.0 of Maslovsky's applet. The fonts are not optimized for VGA display, but it allows for creation of swap files up to 64mb. It also states that it can create the swap file at /hdd2/swapfile on SL-C3000 models.

qtopia-memoryapplet_1.0.1a_arm.ipk

I use the former because I like the pretty icons

To make confusion just a little bigger: I have installed the Cacko ROM 1.23beta1 on my C3000. It already contains the memoryapplet, and that memoryapplet states to be "Memory Monitor Plugin 1.0.1" 2003 by Anton Maslovsky, but it allows for swap files of 128MB in size. :-]

From what I can see on the GUI of the aplet, it allows for swap file creation anywhere on the HDD, provided there is enough room and the partition is writable, of course.

And even more - the version in Cacko 1.23 allows to create swap file in internal flash
I will probably bump its version to make it less confusing
