Q: How To Backup New Sl-c3100
« on: July 02, 2005, 08:26:48 am »
Apologies in advance for the basic nature of the question.

I have a new 3100 as sold in Japan (i.e., no English language conversion) and want to backup the rom / microdrive before I start using it.  The purpose of the backup is to restore the system to the original state.

I would appreciate it if someone could educate me or point me in the right direction.

(By the way, Sharp decided to include an international adapter with this version.  I understand that there was a domestic power adapter in previous versions.)

Johnny,

simply do a NAND-Backup like described in our SL-C1000/3000
manual : http://www.trisoft.de/en_c1000howto.htm

Backing up the MicroDrive contents is not neccessary. All what's
on the MicroDrive is also on the 3 CDs that came with the unit.
And if you're not a Japanese speaker, the contents are useless
for you.

For localisation, there's a first backup set available:

Have fun with your new Zaurus,

Congrats on your new unit!  The community here is tight and i am very happy to see a international power plug available.  When i purchased my c1000, i was a bit disabointed about my adaptor but i ordered a new one from streamline which works with mines.  So Good Luck and happy forum/software hunting.

---people here are very helpfull.

Dear Marc,

Thank you for your generosity and for the great information.  I realize that TRIsoft sells the Zaurus.  Were it not for the fact that shipping electronics into Russia is a bit tricky and that a friend was flying back from Tokyo, TRIsoft would have been my first choice.  I'll remember when Sharp releases the next version in a few months.   I have some friends in Frankfurt I need to visit.  (Actually, I do speak Japanese.)

Dear Cresho,

Thanks for the welcome!  I sincerely appreciate the sentiment.  It looks like you've bought more than one Zaurus.  I know who to ask if I have future questions.

Cheers,

~ J
