This sounds interesting. I was looking at ZeroConf ad-hoc networking a while back. I'd be interested to hear about it if you make any progress.
As far as I understand these all suffer from the same problem - they require a critical mass of users to make it worthwhile trying to use them.

Yes, all participants in the ad-hoc network would need to run AODV. Provided that one (or more) of these nodes are withn range of an AODV peer that has Internet connectivity, all would be able to reach the Internet.
You are correct about the "critical mass" issue, though thankfully not all AODV participants would need to have Zaurii as the software is available for many platforms.
A good starting point for making progress on this might be to gather a group of Zaurus users together, say at an upcoming event, or at a ZUG. This could serve as a debugging session for us, and as an educational tool for non-Zaurus folks.
Anyone know of any upcoming gatherings where we could try this out? Or alternatively is there a ZUG that meets with some frequency that would be willing to do some research?
