Open Zaurus Flash, Z Now Dead
« on: July 06, 2005, 10:18:22 pm »
Hi all,

I tried to Flash Open Zaurus on my 5500 using a CF card that I formatted. Thinking that was needed, since nothing happened when i tried to flash without formatting the CF. So after formatting and copying the zImage and initrd.bin, the two lights stay on for about 3 minutes, when they go off the Z will not turn on. I did the reset, put the button back in Normal operation etc. I can reflash and get the same lights for 3 minutes.  Any ideas on getting the Z to turn on?

Perhaps instead  I need a new CF card that I won't format and try to flash again. anyone want to sell me such a CF?

Sounds okay, sometimes with my collie it takes a fair bit of holding the button down (for various random lengths of time, etc.) before it will restart.

And, of course, if all else fails, just reflash with the Sharp ROM or some other ROM and see if it works.

Got it working..

FYI. I bought a CF reader (my Z was my CF reader) and saw that the zImage file was 0 bytes.  recopied the files to the CF using the reader. did the reset C-D and it flashed for only about 2 minutes. hitting the Reset and then power on did not work, but 10 minutes later I it the power button and it did work!  Welcome to Opie.

Thanks for the great software and for the support forums.

Some people have said that removing the battery and leaving it out all night then putting it back in the next day can revive a Zaurus...I haven't had to do this so maybe someone else could clarify what the procedure is.
