Evdo On Zaurus?

Curious if anyone out there has tried any EVDO wireless services on their Z? I found one CF card so far EVDO Card. Does anyone know if this works?... or is there a better solution? Hunting for reliable AP's is getting tedious

That card works fine with the Zaurus.  I've used (and continue to use) it with both the 5600 and the C3000.

But you MUST use the battery attachement.  The CF card alone will fry your unit, due to power overload.

And usage is pricey:  40 bucks for 20 megs of data transfer.

How bulky is the battery pack for the card? Do you have a photo?

Admittedly needing a battery pack is a bit of a setback. Maybe there's an opportunity to make a pack that will power the Z and the card too.

You can see a battery pack attached to the CF card at: [a href=\"http://www.growellusa.com/p_modem.html]http://www.growellusa.com/p_modem.html[/url] (although the battery shown is actually smaller than the one I have).

The battery clips on the the underside of the CF card and has a hinge that folds under the Zaurus.  It add some bulk, but it's doable.  The other positive thing about the card is the PC card adapter that comes with it, which makes it usable in a laptop.  No battery is needed for laptop use.

I've got EVDO speeds working on my SL-C3000 via bluetooth and Verizon's Motorola e815 (just came out). I've only had it for one day but it appears to work. Verizon crippled the bluetooth stack by disabling DUN by default but they left a back door that was discovered by superdave on howardforums. Simply type ##DIALUP very quickly and the bluetooth DUN profile is enabled.    

FYI - download speed reported of approx. 390kbs via one of the speed test sites.

That card you linked to isn't EV-DO.  Read the fine print:

The Sprint CF2031 offers seamless wireless access to the Internet, Intranet and company applications including e-mail with attachments, via laptops and PDAs at speeds averaging 50 to 70 Kbps, with peak speeds of up to 144 Kbps.

Those speeds are 1xRTT.  I think the confusion comes from later on the same web page where it starts talking about Sprint's EV-DO network rollout.

Sorry for offtopic, but how much VZW charges for data usage? Is there any unlimited plan that could be used with E815? It's cool that moto left a backdoor in E815. Guess that will be disabled in the next firmware release?

It looks like they're just charging minutes. I'll have to wait until the next bill to know for sure. DUN isn't officially allowed on the E815 so there is no unlimited data plan. I think they'll keep DUN unofficially available until they feel it's being abused.

What about latency? Is RTT within 300ms window?

there is an unlimited EV-DO + 1x plan... $80/mo... check with your company to see about getting any discounts... I work for one of the largest communications companies and virtually all divisions of Verizon use our products (including EV-DO) and as such we get around a 20% discount which makes it stomachable (yeah, we make the stuff but we don't get it for free, hehe). I was told by a VZW rep that our discount is the largest he has ever seen......
