Opie Setup Issues...
« on: July 09, 2005, 03:40:10 pm »
All,
I was recently experimenting with the new QT rom and decided that it wasn't worth a flip compared to OZ 3.5.3 and decided to go back to OZ.  I successfully flash evertime.  Opie starts and I do the usual...Set the date, time, Time Zone, user data so on and so forth.  Then the screen goes white and says Welcome to Opie...You have not succeeded enough authentication steps!  So i tap the proceed button and the only thing i get is the same screen with the button "Another Try".  This is an ongoing issue with me...since i've already reflashed my zaurus ten times.  Any help appreciated.

OZ 3.5.3 Opie

Thanks,
Dave

Just a hunch but it sounds like your home directory still has settings and config files from previous installations. If you can get a prompt, cd to /home/root and delete everything in it. Then re-flash.

Steps:
** be careful... this is irreversible!! (don't try this if there is anything you want to save).

   cd /home/root
   rm -Rf *

Cheers,
Randall.

Narrowing it down a little further, it sound like the security settings.

Press a key when it says loading opie 5 seconds, this will get you to the command line, then remove the security package or its conf file.

This is from memory, but I have seen another thread like this I just can't remember when.

Randall & Samac,
You two are genious!  The deleting of the home directory took care of it.  Samac, I believe you were right about the security settings because I had installed opie-securityplugin-pin.  I believe that by deleting the home directory removed the config file for that package.  I'm up and running thanks to the two of you!  Out of curiousity, which I know killed the cat, have either of you had any luck getting your zaurus to play mpeg's or any other media without skipping problems.  I've googled this one for quite a while and to no avail I get nothing.

Thanks,
Dave

Sorry, that is very low on my priority list, so I haven't even dabbled in multimedia yet. There have been a number of threads on that subject and a search of the forum should bring up something.
