Nice work on the ROM Hentges

Has anyone got the cardfs to work from a compactflash card?  I'm installing the latest Hentges T3 ROM for a friend on his SL-5500 (256MB CF card), but I just can't seem to make it work.  OPIE boots up fine but only the non-cardfs apps are available (eg. konsole plus a few preferences and applets).  The same ROM images work fine on my 5500 where I'm using a 256MB SD card for cardfs.

Any pointers as to debugging the problem?  I can't seem to find how the cardfs system is mounted.. is it a pivot_root ? I did a quick scan through the init.d scripts but nothing jumped out at me.

The "do_not_use" directory only contains Release Candidates, stable releases can be found at http://hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/oz3.5.3-opie1.2.0.shtml.

And as there is no new (public) RC yet, the do_not_use folder is empty.

Thanks!  I had apparently missed the post where it made it to release status (hurrah!).  And I'm not trying to be a pain, but the last time I flashed something to OZ, it was my 6k to 3.5.2, and something in the process went wonky and it seemed bricked for a while.  So I'm nervous when trying to follow the instructions when it gets to this part.

Well, while I can't fault the honesty there (it is, in fact, currently down), I guess I'm looking for pointers to an installation guide that is not, in fact, currently down.  I'm not trying to be a weenie here--just nervous.  I have done some searching and found what I think is the google mirror of the guide [a href=\"http://64.233.161.104/search?q=cache:qAgLqPIL87YJ:openzaurus.org/wordpress/installation/sl-c1000/+c1000+zaurus+updater.sh&hl=en]here[/url] (if that doesn't work, do a google search for "c1000 zaurus updater.sh" and grab the cache of openzaurus.org/wordpress/installation/sl-c1000/).

Rofl... thanks.  Since the link was broken, I had somehow made the assumption that the whole site was down, so went for the cache.  Not to worry, I'll flash that puppy tonight (assuming I can find a CF card big enough around the house).

I installed the cardfs manually after first boot, using the 'cardfs_install.sh' script.  It found the cardfs.bin image on the SD card and I selected the option to install to /media/cf.

If I browse the /media/cf I can see the installation was successful.  However all the symlinks in /opt/QtPalmtop/bin seem to point to /media/card/... instead of /media/cf/...

Is there some way I can get this all working without having to manually relink all the files ?   Or should I start debugging 'cardfs_install.sh' to see where it's going wrong?

PS. just trying the cardfs_install.sh once more, will send an update if anything different occurs.

nice new hentges rom at all. but there are some problemes on my Z 5500(hetges 3.5.3 T3):

- z hangs at opie startup if asus-wlan-device is plugged in, perhaps i messed the system

- opie-today doesn't show the todolist or the plugin... i have reinstalled it, linked with ipkg-link... but the problem still exists... is this a hentges-rom-related problem??

I'm not sure what your trying to accomplish here... but I believe this is at least part of your problem?

I'm trying to get it working on a CF card, I couldn't care less about the SD card   I just have the cardfs.bin image on a SD card which is why that is mentioned.

I think I understand now. It sounds like when you manually used the cardfs_install.sh it symlinked (or rather tried to) /media/card? Now I'm guessing you have symlinks to both the SD and CF so you will have to clean that up for this to work.

I've never installed the cardfs to the CF-card... I will look at that script later tonight or tomorrow morning.

I took a quick look at the instructions on CoreDumps site. Did you run:
rm /etc/.cardfs_installed
before you reran the cardfs_install.sh?

Yeah, it won't do anything unless you remove that first   I'm back at home now so just about to have a poke around in cardfs_install.sh, at least I can get net on the zaurus here so I'll be able to ssh in and use a real keyboard

From first glance, I don't understand why it shouldn't work.  I'm gonna put a debug in on the line before it calls ipkg-link to see what the params it passes in are.

Not sure on this one, but I flashed my akita with T3-DE and zImage-akita-20050726082551.bin, and am having trouble with my wireless (buffalo WLI2-etc-etc, started a separate thread for that one).  Normal confusion aside, I tried as part of the debugging process to "modprobe hostap_cs", and got a TON of unresolved symbol errors.

Was that supposed to happen, or is this unusual and I must have had a bad flash?

Also--in Konsole, scrolling the screen quickly generates artifacts--characters are left behind, etc.  Makes things very confusing after a while.

Any suggestions on either?

Your /proc/version should look like this:

If not, then the new kernel wasn't flashed (which would explain your problems)
As for the screen artifacts, I'm seeing them, too. No solution, yet.
