Some short answers, cause I don't have the time right now :

Trying the new 4.4 beta 2 on my Z 3200. Installed to an ext2 partition on the internal drive. What I like about this beta is that it just works. Right out of the box. With 4.2 there was a lot of faffing around. Of course the plugins
should spice things up a bit!

Plugins will follow, just need some time to compile and pack them.

Not sure installing to internal drive is a good idea. Previous versions only liked "/".

Takes a little longer to startup though.

Some things I tried:
* aterm launcher works
* default height for taskbar (the top one) doesn't allow battery monitor to show current charge. I can just see an icon and a black bar

right click on the panel -> customize panel -> change height (and autohide).

Quote
* Locked up when I removed the SD card (I think this maybe because I launched xfce from mnt/card or I was in mnt/card in an aterm sess)

bad idea

Quote
* Needed to add SL-C3200 to the xinitrc.xfce script to get the keymaps working
* Installed rox pinboard. Seems to work ok. Haven't used rox before. Filer looks good
* sometimes I seem to lose focus and not be able to get it back (It's like it's hung but things are still updated and I can still move the cursor around). My feeling is it could be rox but it's a guess

It's xfce (known bug, not Z-related), use alt-tab to get back in control.

Exiting straight after load highlighted some errors regarding not being able to load some hicolor icons, go to freedesktop.org to download.

hicolor theme in my contrib feed should do the trick.
Personally I switched to tango-theme, I'll package it asap.

Some questions:
* Will it possible to do the tweaks to the taskbars to make them one/hide them etc?
* Any cool features I should be aware of (s'pose I should check the XFCE website right?)

HTH

I'll continue playing...

Thanks for a great job Chero

About taskbars : "customise panel" again.

Nice features :
"toggle full screen" shortcut
"add menu to menu button"
" ... "

Have fun,
Chero.

Chero,

I have been testing 4.4beta2, and it works great.  The only problem I have has so far is when using the menu editor it crashes.  I am able to edit the config file by hand, though, so it is not such a big deal.

It would be great to have some plugins and icons packaged for this version.  I have found it much more stable than the previous version I tested.  The keyboard shortcuts are much easier to set in this version, as I can edit my custom scheme after it is created (this was a problem in the old version).

Thanks for your great work, and looking forward to plugins!

sorry for the delay, my home-box had a hd-failure (crash). Not really such a big deal as I have a backup of my data, but I have to install a new hd and reinstall things first.

About the menu-editor : a known xfce 4.4 bug (BTW : it's the same in "xubuntu"). A new version of the editor will be released soon.

Have fun,
Chero.

Chero,

While I am asking you to compile things, do we need a new version of thunar and orage for this beta, or will the ones you compiled for the previous beta work?  I guess I can try this for myself when I get home tongith and post my results here...

They do work (at least the ones for beta1).

My panel at the bottom : menu - launchers - taskbar - actionbutton - batterymonitor - clock
My panel at the top : mountplugin - systray(empty) - cpugraph - systemload with memory and swap - clipboard - notes

I'll upload them asap.

Thunar:  needs libexo and libexo needs perl-URI and perl-URI doesn't want to build without rebuilding perl, so please be patient and use the previous version for now (it does work).

Orage : I'll check it out.

Have fun,

There is no real xfce-volume-plugin available.
There is a volume-control available in the "xmms-plugin" (which is available for 4.2.2 but not yet for 4.4beta - coming soon)

Don't know whether the mb-volume-applet will work from the xfce-systray, haven't tried.

Keep you updated,
Chero.

I have try mb applet and work, but I don't like it becouse I use a black theme (and the applet is white), becouse it goes in systray and becouse I have to star everytime I start X.

Yes try this. Works very well. You can use the XFCE Appfinder and right click on the program to find the commandline you need to put in the autostart section (if you're a newb like me and don't know what everything is called).

The old version of Thunar does work, but it expects libxfce4util.so.2, which doesn't seem to exist in the new beta.  I create a link for this file from the existing libxfce4util.so, which seems to have worked fine.  I will test out orage too, even though I have never used it before.  It sounds interesting.

Thanks Chero.

I took a note of this, I installed the new over the old, so in my case libxfce4util.so.2 already existed.

Orage works as well, but you need to restart xfce in order to get it to start up.  I don't know if the same symlink applies that does to thunar - I already had it in my system at this point.  I can take it out and test it if that would be helpful.

I'm bit confused (easily done). Can you confirm where you get these apps from?

Thanks.
