hi there... i have a problem with rox... when i want to start rox i have these error:

(ROX-Filer:3158): Glib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot register existing type 'GtkIconeTheme'

(ROX-Filer:3158): Glib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot retrieve class for invalid (unclassed) type '<invalid>'

seems to be the gtk+ (gtk2) 2.4<->2.6 incompatibility warning.
Did you install gtk, gtk2 from the same feed as the one you installed rox from ?
Maybe try reinstalling them ?
Other answers google gave me can be summarised as :
- (re)install pango
- (re)install librsvg
- (re)install gnome-icon-theme

don't know about this, i hardly ever rotate the screen. But I've seen some solutions on this forum, just browse the xfce-related-threads.

Good luck

I'v installed the xfce4 packages on my C750 SD card .
When running starxfce4 I got the following message :
xfce4-session: error while loading shared libraries: libxfsm-4.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I will appreciate your advice.

thanks,
David.

Dear David,

Run "ldconfig" on the command line and it will be fine.

Is there a way to map the panel menu to the menu button? I've everything else mapped fine, back light, chkhinge, maximize & full screen, If I just had the panel menu I'd be all set...

Why does XFCE freeze when launching programs such as package manager, licq, ppp, perhaps some others? The wireless card still works though and i can ssh into it, kill x and continue working.

I finally figured it out, the command is:
Code: [Select]
xfdesktop -menuI simply mapped that to the menu key in the Window manager settings. Now I'm all set

I'm currently running XFCE4 on my SL-C3000. Things seem to be working well, but I've been wanting to map some of the Fn keys to some functions (like the zoom in/out, brightness, volume control). The problem is that in the Xmodmap file for akita, all the lines mentioning F1-F10 are commented out. This means that to Xev, Fn+1 just produces a 1, etc. I tried uncommenting the lines to see what would happen and it appears that F1-F10 overtake the 1-0 keys so you can't type numbers. I checked in MB and it appears that to it, Xev still outputs a "1" when Fn+1 is pressed. How does the keybinding work for MB and can we use the same method in XFCE to map functions to the Fn keys?

I'm seeing this same issue on my C-760, any clue?

Solution: Autostart of Applications (also in panel-systray) and Question: Autohide of panel

You have to create a Directory named "Desktop" and within this directory a subdirectory "Autostart".

Hi,

I've been trying to get this work, but no luck :-( Could you tell me in what directory you created the Desktop directory, and what permissions are on the various files involved?

Regards,

   Herman

Maybe try my experimental packages ?? (look [a href=\"https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=14864&view=findpost&p=123085]over here[/url])
The packages are here : http://users.telenet.be/zaurususer/ipkgs/experimental/
First uninstall all xfce4-stuff.
Install what you need and
then you can try the autostarter.

BTW : the battery applet also changes backlight and suspend settings as it should !!

Have fun,

How "experimental" are those? I more or less now have a "stable" Zaurus I was planning on using for a while (at least until kernel 2.6 will be out :-), after playing around with various winmanagers and apps.

Also, do you know something about memory usage of 4.4 vs 4.2? I find that with the various applets and things running, 64MB is getting tight :-)

Bad news ? It uses more memory (for now). BTW : check your memory usage now, then reboot, restart xfce4 and check again - it should be less. the window manager of 4.2.2 has a memory leak (not severe, but if you keep it up too long it can eat some memory).

How stable : the panel crashed a few times in the last three days, but I'm challenging it. Maybe wait for the final release if you want a stable system, I just wanted to share what I've got so far.

Have fun,

Chero,

I am running the experimental packages now with no probkems.  Thanks for your great work!

The onky issue I have is the battery applet - there isn't one.  I have tries installing the one for your old xfce packages, but I cannot get it recognized evn if I move it to the correct directory.  I do have the mb-applet-battery running in the system tray, but it does not provide much information.  Could you point me to where I could get a working battery applet?

The rotation is correct in the new packages for a C1000, which is great.  Besides some panel crashing when I was setting it up I have no problems with it.  Thaanks!

I upgraded some packages yesterday to 4.3.90.1 (which is the 4.4 beta1 release that was released last monday).
Thunar has been upgraded to 0.3.0 (beta1) too. It has been recompiled after compiling xfdesktop to be able to provide desktop icons (without rox). It kinda works, but there's some work to do.

About the battery applet : the xfce4-panel has been completely rewritten for this release. All the goodies have to be upgraded, some are ready, others aren't. I'll have to check if the battery applet has been upgraded already.

The matchbox applet doesn't provide all the info, but it shows the correct status for me (AC/Battery, red when running out of juice, ...). The good thing is that it sets the correct backlight and auto-suspend settings when changing from battery to AC.

I'll try to create some "non-experimental" packages later this week or the beginning of next week. The current packages include the "devs" and don't have any dependencies.

For those who want to try, you need at least gtk2, gnome-vfs and libxml2.

Thanks for the feedback.

Have fun,
Chero.
