here are some nice screens of my xfce4 combinated with rox... i think it looks really nice.

... oh and excuse the horizontal lines in some pictures... i dont know why they exist (but they are not from the zaurus... i cannot see them there. maybe it is because of the screenshot application). and also excuse the jpg low-quality. also the screenshots appear a lot darker than it is on the zaurus itself.

Woo~ the destop is so cool and great.
would u pls to tell us how can you arrange the icons on the desk?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=96869\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

ok... to make the upper taskbar dissapear i got in the xfce settings => tasbbar settings. there i chose the following:
Position: Bottom
Autohide!!!
Size: small height (width doesnt matter)
Tasks: remove all options
Pager: do not show
notification area: dont show system tray

then the taskbar will be behind the panel and so you will not see it.

for the desktop icons you should install rox and all other rox packages wich are in the feed.
in aterm or whatever console type: rox --pinboard=MYPINBOARD (or whatever name you want). then you should see a blank desktop with the folder Home. if you open it, the rox file manager should appear (you should make also some configuration, because there are just icons but you dont know the meaning of the most. but in the rox filer configuration you can choose that in the menus are shown icons and the name under them). you have to do just drag'n'drop from the filer to the desktop and the file/folder/whatever appears on the desktop.
just for informations: it is not the best idea to go to /bin or /usr/bin and drag'n'drop these apps because they all have just an ugly cross or x as an icon. it is though possible to choose another icon for the app but it takes some time to do it with them all. so you can take the apps with the icons which are also shown in matchbox on the desktop... they are all located in: /usr/apps
so if you go there with the rox filer and drag'n'drop the apps you want to your desktop it is the fastest and best looking method (unless you have other icons which you want to use).
and if you want to change the icons: right click on them => App dir 'your_app" => set icon. and as you can see in the window: "drop and icon here" just open the rox filer, look for you icon u want to use and drag'n'drop it in this window... thats all.
i think rox in combination with xfce4 is very useable, fast and easy... and also looks nice on a pda... what should i say, my zaurus looks now like a real desktop device. i think i won't call it pda anymore but mini laptop (what it is now)

EDIT:

i forgot the following:

in xinitrc.xfce4 add the following line:

rox --pinboard=(the name you put in before... i.e. MYPINBOARD)

this makes the pinboard appear after a reboot automatically. but it is important to type in the same name as before else you will get again this blank desktop with the home folder.

you simply need to kill the taskbar process and save you session, or manually edit the session.
I's not a good idea keeping a taskbar alive with no use - we mainly lackresources

thats true ... but if you make it the way i said before you won't find the process because it is not running. (i tried now. i couldnt find any process. but when i configured the taskbar again with no "auto hide" it suddenly appeared as a process).

About the "startxfce4" and "xintrc.xfce4" :
I took notes, they will be upgraded soon. (as seperate ipkg or as an updated ipkg, haven't decided yet). As for now, I think most people will find it over here, no ?

Nice screenshots !!

If you want to change the recent apps, there's a file :
~/.config/xfce4/menustart/recentapps.xml : you can edit it to get mine out (I manually changed the times I used the apps, to keep them there and to test). I suppose you don't have "gxine" on your Z, that's how I see it are still the apps I put there.

I also see there is some space left in that colum, you can configure the menu to show more "recent apps".

Probably you don't have the correct xmodmap loaded.
Are you sure it's right click that works in xfce ? If you have the drop-down that give you the choice between workspaces, it's middle click.
Check if your "fn" key works and
Go a few posts back, there they talk about how to load the correct xmodmap.
(perhaps check if it exists, I don't know - still using rc10)

Ok guys, I got ROX and XFCE4 running together.  Today I rebooted, did an IPKG upgrade/update, and now when I startXfce4, XFCE starts up, and the panel crashes with a segmentation fault.  Any ideas?

Im using the rc11/760 feed.

thanks!

Ok, well, I blew away my .cache and everything seems to be working....

We shall see if it keeps it up.

Thanks!

Very nice work, Chero.   I've been running the default stuff for a while now (for the sake of ease, and not having to hunt down packages every RC!), but I might give xfce a try.  I'm curious, how has it been running for everyone?  I have a C860, and use the SD card for most applications outside the "core" files (libs, ROX, programs which don't run in X, etc...) and I'm afraid that xfce would be sluggish.

the posts back are about different models. i'm going back to rc10. rc11 is nice and all but the right-click and time gets lost after rebooting are two things i dont like.. so its back to rc10 with no mic/suspend button working..but at least i have the other two

I put up a mirror for everything xfce+plugins

[a href=\"http://www.voidmachine.com/capoeira/pdaXrom/feeds/xfce/]http://www.voidmachine.com/capoeira/pdaXrom/feeds/xfce/[/url]

Chero-> your package file contains two duplicates of everything..and the xfce core isn't listed..

Not that it would help, but I don't have a problem loosing time on my C1K with rc11. I run hwclock from init scripts now, because sometimes I get my time sync'ed up via ntp, but I believe that even without hwclock it was fine.
