6000 Vs. The C3x00
« on: August 13, 2005, 10:29:37 pm »
ok, pretty basic question. I'm looking into purchasing a zaurus. It won't be for a while yet, but I'm wanting one. I've been looking at the c3x00 series, but I like the looks of the 6000. Any particular reason to purchase one over the other?

I love my 6k. the brighter bigger screen and builtin wireless (and especially the ruggedization) appeal to me.
on the other hand, there are people here who've gone from 6k to 1 k and are happy...

it really depends.......

I would suggest getting a 1,3, 3.1 or 6k, or next version based entirely on getting a good deal on one or the other

If I were you I would buy a C3100 and a Symbol CF WiFi. That way you would have a new device(with a warranty depending on the seller up to 2 years), 128Mb Flash instead of 64Mb, 4Gb, Wifi, better keyboard (with dedicated row for numbers, Ctrl, Fn, Alt, Shift), jog wheel, 3.5mm jack instead of 2.5mm. But that's just me. I had a 6k and switched for a C1000(that may sound silly for some) because of the form factor, size, new device and better support from developpers.

As Adf said it really depends what you want. Ask yourself if you will mostly use it in portrait mode or landscape mode. Speed wise they are roughly the same. Battery wise there is more juice in the C3100. On the other hand the 6k is rock solid, has better/bigger screen, integrated WiFi, has a microphone so that you can use it for VOIP.
At the moment support from developpers is better for the 6k(SharpROM,  OZ, PdaXROM, GuylhemROM) because the C3100(SharpROM) is so new. But I think that support from developpers will be good too for the C3100 in the future as it's close to a C1000 in terms of hardware. The 6K is not sold anymore, so it's hard to find accessories for it like the plastic cover screen, battery and the sled-battery(Power Mickeyl).

Hope this help.

If you can wait until December, Sharp Japan may release another version of the clamshell with built in WiFi and possibly other features.  Then the choice would be easy.

The word is "May" so it doesnt mean they "will".  He is assuming and a good one at that since this would probably be the next step in a zaurus.

Reason i see they do not incorporate "built in" is because some companies do not allow intigrated devices with wifi or bluetooth in office.  So, it is possible they left it out for those reasons.  I am kinda glad for this since i can take my device anywere as long as i don't have my cf wifi with me.  Then again, integration would be a major plus.

I was in the city of cerritos and they are the first in the world to provide city wide wifi.  When i turned my zaurus on and activated wifi, i was amazed to see it working anywere i went within city.  The only problem is that they charge 39 a month for service.
