[sl 5500]how Install Oz And Opie To Sd And Boot Sd
« on: September 01, 2005, 12:25:14 pm »
I have installed the OZ 3.5.3 and opie on my SL-5500 in the internal memory, i download zImage-collie-32-32-20050407102515.bin and opie-image-collie-20050407173817.rootfs.jffs2 .

OZ and Opie are beautiful, i'm happy but the problems are:

1- In this installation i don't have browser web like Opera and movie-audio player like xine or media player, i have try to install it bye the packages Manger trougth internet connection of my PC Slackware. But on the internal storage i have 168Kb free. How can do ?

2- I have see this page http://openzaurus.org/wordpress/howto/root-on-sd/ but i have some question, my SD are Kingston 1Gb, i think that create an image by 300Mb for OZ and OPIE, how can do it? on my image i copy the file that are running now on my zurus and after i download the package that i need?i want Opie full with all package, there is an image that i can download and copy file in my image?

THANKS

Rather than moving root to the SD card (which yo ucan do if you want), try installing stuff to the SD card, e.g.:

ipkg install -d sd opie-mediaplayer2

Try konqueror(-embedded?) for the web browser, mplayer for movies, xmms/opie-mediaplayer2 for sounds, etc.

Then once you've installed everything you want run the following command to symlink the whole lot:

ipkg-link mount /media/card

Then hit the reload icons icon on the settings page (or use the shutdown applet to restart opie) and the icons, etc. will appear.

All apps will work, with the probable exception of things like kernel modules (things which are required before the SD card is re-mounted post-suspend).

Wich is the best way? if i make an image on the SD, on the internal storage what i need for boot ? Only the kernel ? Can use the space free on the internal storage for another use, like Memory (Cached, Buffers)  or most Internal Memory ?

Wich is the best way?

IMHO use the Z the way it came and install stuff to the SD card using ipkg then ipkg-link it.

You'd only move /opt and /home.

No, it's flashROM, it cannot (should not) be used for swap space etc. (it's slow & it cannot be replaced and it has a finite write-lifetime).

Where i must move this dir? to SD?

I can download the zImage-collie-32-0-20050407102515.bin and install it.... so i have the internal storage free and them install all packages that i need on the SD.... what do you think?

What is the difference between zImage-collie-32-0-20050407102515.bin and the Image-collie-32-32-20050407102515.bin ?

I think that all the two image are make for work with 32 Mb of Memory, ok? This is right because SL-5500 have 32Mb of memory....

The image 32-0, if the internal storage is 0, where put the files? What install?  Because with the 32-32 my internal storage is empty !!!! As you can se by the image attached.

THANKS FOR YOU PATIENCE

You want the zImage-collie-64-0 (the 5000 is also named collie but only has 32MB available)
The difference between the 32-32 and the 64-0 is that the 64-0 gives you 64MB of RAM... but you must install most things to your SD-card to use this.

Have you formatted your SD-card with ext2 so you can install and symlink apps on it? If not please do... if you need any help the instructions are in the how-to section of OESF:
https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Step-b...ing_for_newbies

If you understand this and would like to try this type of install I would suggest you try the Hentges Rom. I will post a link here but please read the documentation on Hengtes.Net:
http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/oz3...opie1.2.0.shtml

But when i try to install opie-mediaplayer2 it failed:

No, you've flashed the right thing don't worry.

The opie-mediaplayer2-skin dep is a know one - you have to manually install one of the two skin files which start opie-mediaplayer2-skin (should be in the feed).

I don't know why you've got these requirements for libqpe1, etc. as they should be installed already.

Which feed are you trying to use? The one which came built in?

excuse me for my question..... but Greg2 say to install hentges, i try to install but have some problems:

the link for install guide is broken....how i can do it ? i have downloaded :

cardfs-opie-collie-openzaurus_oz3.5.3-opie1.2.0-r1.bin
zImage-collie-64-0-20050723223653.bin
oz-opie-collie_T3-EN.tar.gz

I rename zImage-collie-64-0-20050723223653.bin in zImage
i have extracted the initrd by the oz-opie-collie_T3-EN.tar.gz and i have put this two file in CF and the cardfs-opie-collie-openzaurus_oz3.5.3-opie1.2.0-r1.bin in SD (ext2)

I have flashed but when opie start the display resolution is wrong....

EXCUSE ME!!!!

THANK YOU!!!!

I have the same problem. Everything is up to date, kernel-r21 and the 3.5.3 updates to libipkg0.

When I try to install almost anything to the sd, (yes formatted ext2), I get the dependency problem of libqpe1>=1.2.0 and libqte2>=2.3.10 needed.

Both are installed in RAM but system doesn't recognize them.

Any ideas/suggestions or links?

Ah, I seem to remember something about the old ipkg (the one in 3.5.3) not handling the -rX business correctly.

You have the correct libs, it's just that ipkg doens't recognise 1.2.0-r2>1.2.0 and 2.3.10-r14>2.3.10.

Try using -force-depends, that way it'll ignore this error but still install other deps if available.
