Swapping The Sl-c3000's Internal Flash Memory?
« on: September 05, 2005, 12:01:30 am »
Has anyone ever considered swapping the 16x8 flash in the 3000 for a 128x8 flash? I've not done any tracing to see if lines are disbled, but just a cursory inspection of pictures on the web (http://photos6.flickr.com/7220544_efbaef7180_b.jpg) of the c1000 and c3000 suggests that there isn't a lot of difference in the hardware.

Those part numbers on the flash are:
K9F2808U0C for the 16x8 in the c3000
K9F1G08U0A for the 128x8 in the c1000

It looks like the 16x8 chip is pin compatible with the 128x8 chip, but I'm not sure the bigger chips are. I'll dig up the specs while I work up the courage to do the surgery. It seems that 128x8 would be lower risk since sharp uses 128x8 already in the 3100 and the 1000

just pried apart my sandisk 256M mini cruiser and it contains a K9K2G08U0M 256x8 chip. once I'm done grilling steaks, I'll try a graceful removal and reinstall to get my micro-min soldering skills back in shape.

Looks like is chip is pin compatible with the 16x8 chip in the 3000.
