Install Question From A Newbie...
« on: September 06, 2005, 03:10:42 pm »
Hello all,

just discovered OpenBSD: it looks very interesting, and I would like to try it.

I already did some reading, but wanted to make sure, that I will be OK before I proceed ( I have a C3100 ).

So here are my questions:

- is it correct, that I can install OpenBSD on a CF card ( 512 MB ) - and that will leave my original Sharp ROM intact?
- reading
ftp://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/snapsho.../INSTALL.zaurus
and
http://web.kssp.upd.edu.ph/barryg/zaurus/cf.html
will tell me all that needs to be done? Or are there better / more detailed / simpler step-by-step instructions somewhere?

Thank you for your help.

Miklos

PS: What is WD1 in "sudo fdisk wd1 "? Is WD1 the CF card?

Yes. Do read up on various threads here.

INSTALL.zaurus is accurate, I tested cf.html notes.  Do send your
comments, and if you find anything inaccurate.

Within OpenBSD, yes.

Barry,

thank you for the encouraging answer. As my 3100 is still brand new, I will spend a couple days to learn the Linux side and the overall operation of it ( it is quite different after multiple Palm, Pocket PC and Psion units...).

Then I will follow the OpenBSD instructions...

I will post an update here.

Thanks again,

Miklos
