My friend in Tokyo just told me that Sharp support in Japan has contacted her about my C3000. They finally have decided that it could not be fixed and will be replaced instead. So I will be getting a brand spanking new C3000 back soon. All my data is lost though  Sharp support insists that backing up the harddisk is the customer's responsibility. Man, backing up my Zaurus is what killed it in the first place. Damn USB sync cable fried the unit. Anyway, I should be getting it in about 3 weeks time or so...

..and opening it in order to remove the hard disk for external backup would probably have destroyed your warranty, right?

dilemma.

But great they did it on warranty.

Yeah, that's why I didn't open it up. Had a choice of saving my data and voiding the warranty, or lose my data and get it repaired/replaced on warranty. Well, you know which option I picked, but it took them over a month to decide that they should give me a new one  Luckily I bought a C3100 or else I would had gone crazy waiting for it to return. Now if only my local customs people didn't screw up their computer system and created queues of several weeks for imported goods to clear customs...

In my case, the problem was not caused by the USB host cable aka mini USB-A. I have been using the GoldX 5-in-1, Avico and iRiver cables without problems. The problem that killed my Z was the USB mini-B cable aka USB sync cable that you use to transfer files between PC/Laptop withZaurus, ie the cable you would use with IntelliSync. I don't use it much since I use my wifi and samba to transfer files most the time, but this time I wanted to copy files to my 4GB CF card which would not work with a CF wifi inserted so I tried the USB sync cable. Meanie, teach me how to transfer files to my Z via WIFI please! That's one of my Z dreams... Perhaps there's a how-to? Sorry if this question has been asked too many times but I didn't find a good answer with the search function...

Thank you

Thank you, but I keep getting "permission denied" when I type the "/usr/lib/samba..." line. I don't know what to do and your how-to is a little bit hard to follow for me, a linux-terminal noob.
Could you tell me how to do this in a more friendly way? Please?

Thank you in advance

Ok, back on topic for this thread. I just had news from my friend and she told me that Sharp has sent her a new replacement C3000. She will be sending it back to me ASAP. I just wish Australian customs won't be holding it up for too long. There have been queues for imported goods waiting several weeks until customs could clear them. Damn new computer system messed everything up.  Anyway, can't wait to get my hands on my replacement C3000.

Damn, my C3000 is still in Japan. My friend has been busy so she hasn't send it back yet, so I asked her to get me some extra stuff and send it all together to save on postage. Hopefully I'll be getting the USB VGA out adaptor and the new retractable power/sync cable as well

I already have the retractable power/sync cable, but what's this USB VGA out adaptor you're talking about? Any links? It may be a nice addition to my Zaurus stuff...
