Bank Account / Finance App
« on: September 22, 2005, 09:44:03 am »
Are they any good bank account apps for the Z that are...

1. In English
2. In constant development

This is the one app stopping me moving to my Z as my only PDA.  I'd be interested to know what people use that works, or whether anything new is in development (last time I asked there was discussion about KMyMoney being ported by zautrix but I don't believe he has had time to do that yet).

Thanks

I should add, I've got a SL-5500 using the standard Sharp ROM, and am not looking to change to pdaXrom or run X apps - I'm looking for something with an IPK I can download and run...

For example, I see some good comments about QHacc - is there an IPK for that anywhere (or is it really easy to install the source and compile?)

That popular a topic hey?

Is no one aware of an IPK solution??

Okay, how about, how easy is the QHacc route of compiling the software - do I need to add anything to the Z first, or will it "just work"?

Hi

Is this the sort of thing you are looking for?

http://www.grisbi.org/

There is a Zaurus ipk available on the page though it didn't work for me (Sharp rom)

Try Bank out. I haven't used it, so I can't vouch for it's functionality, etc al. It does need python, but all the ipk's are linked off the same page. HTH

You could try QashMoney.  It probably is not as robust as you want,  though.  [a href=\"http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=1011]Qashmoney at Zaurus Software Index[/url]

quashmoney is a good start but not the best but i love it.

you need to disable magnify by holding on to the icon down and remove checkmark.

qashmoney_0.77_arm.ipk

also you need another dependent file which is..

sqlite_2.8.5_arm.ipk

I too am interested in this aspect of things, as I need help managing my finances.  I wish they were complicated, but they aren't - I'm just bad with money

Grisbi: doesn't work, even with X installed.  I went so far as to install debian, then apt-get grisbi, let it dance over my system only to find that it won't work properly in a 640x480 screen.  Arggh!

qashmoney: doesn't support recurring transactions unfortunately  .

I'm now looking at Bank...  If that doesn't work, it might kickstart me to start developing for the Z, as it's crying out for a good finance package under Qt.

Ho hum, no recurring transactions in Bank, either.

This really is the incentive I need to start developing for the z...  I'm off to look at the "getting started" docs  for qtopia

Actually, I think QHacc is a good starting point, as it already supports recurring transactions - it's simply crying out for an IPK (which has to be easier to create than a whole app!)

However, I've tried following the compilation instructions on the QHacc website, and the ./configure stage fails (badly!).

So, for those that have said they've got it working, I'm intrigued in your methods for getting it compiled...

Hope you have more success than me, I can't even get it to compile on my SuSE 9.1 machine, let alone on the Z.

If you don't object to pay software, see if tkckapital is what you are looking for.

Don't know about the "constant development" part though, since they don't seem to have gotten past supporting the 5500.

Depends on the rom you want to use :

I know on pdaXrom :

- Qhacc works.
- through debian chroot I've been running KMyMoney, but the screens didn't fit (too big - 800x600)
- through debian chroot : Kbudget works fine (simple, easy to use, has all the options I expected) = my favorite
- grisbi : should work on pdaX and debian chroot (haven't tried it)
- gnucash : debian again : worked, but too many options for personal use.

edit : sorry, just read your first post, you weren't looking for this, maybe others are ?

Given the lack of fully featured products directly for the Z, I spent some time working out what was needed to get JABP (Java based) working on my Z.  It appears to meet my requirement for "constant development" as well, as I've just noticed a new version was released last month.

It seems to meet my main needs, although I will make some suggestions to the author for some additional features, and I'm also looking into the Lite version to see if that can be used in conjunction with it.

I hope someone does develop or port a full functioned product (chiark maybe?  ) but in the meantime I guess this might have to do (or of course I keep using my current PDA just for my finances!)

I remember ABP and Malcolm Bryant from my Psion days.  The other thing I remember is Bankplus from Pete Sipple, which I used religiously and kept me out of financial scrapes!  Pete has not ported to anything other than Psion, but part of me would like to try to implement a bankplus-alike on the Z...

I still need to look at qhac - sorry, I've been too busy recently!
