Has anybody found a program that will allow bookmarking of large mp3 files?

I listen to a lot of audiobooks, mostly from http://www.audible.com (no audible player for Zaurus) I have other audiobooks that are in the form of large mp3 files (up to 130M)

What I am looking for is something like http://kabook.sourceforge.net/ or even just a player that will allow me to bookmark my last listened to location and resume from that location. Strangely enoug this is not a common feature, most mp3 players will rewsume from the start of a track, and spending 20 minutes fast forwarding to find your place is no fun.

I am hoping to use my new C3100 as an audiobook player, the closest I have come is OTR player http://otrplayer.sourceforge.net/ but it does not support bookmarking. The holy grail would of course include automatic bookmarking of at the last listened to poing of multiple audiobooks!

I know that I can not be the only one out there looking for this!!!

I too would like to listen to audio books on the Zaurus. I did contact them about Linux support on the desktop app and they are apparently working on it, though no timeframe. In terms of the Zaurus to play them they just say they are keen to work with manufactuers to allow this to happen...

It is probably worth you writing to Audible yourself, the more requests they get for this the more likely they might help.

I know this isn't what you're looking for, but the iPod does have that functionality for Audible files. Not for regular MP3 though.

I was hoping to move away from a flash based player (currently using a creative Muvo Slim), but I am not happy with it, audible support is present but minimal, so I am going to try an iaudio G3, U3 - any day now, or i5). I just cannot bring myself to buy into the whole iPoo thing and all of the associated crippleware.

My coding is not up to writing a player for myself just yet, but I an seriously beginning to consider taking an existing player and trying to modify it, just don't know where to start.

I too would like an audio player that bookmarks large mp3's. Does anyone know of a good open source desktop Linux application that might be a candidate for porting?

The way I get around this on my Sl-6000 is to break up the file into smaller "Chapters". At first, I actually found the book' schapter break points, but that took too much time. Now, I just use Goldwave, whcih has an option to break up into files of X:XX length automatically.

Am relistening to all of the Wheel of Time and Game of Thrones series before I read the latest books, both arrived the same day - damn you amazon, now I have to decide which to read first!!!

there is an option in mplayer -ss hh:mm:ss to play from a specific point, just need to figure out a reliable way to capture the last listened to point.

Maybe you can write a script with sed, tr, grep and the like that parses the output of the mplayer console for the time position and save that to a bookmark file which you can give back to mplayer as an -ss parameter.

Based on the dates you might have already have something. But just in case not. I listen to a lot of podcasts and MP3 audio books (as well as music) so having bookmarking facilites (not just resume where you were when you turned the player off).

I have a Creative Zen Nano V+. It's excellent for listening to podcasts, audio books etc. You can save upto 10 different bookmarks. And. Also you can 'fast forward' through MP3 files. However, I haven't found the option so that I can resume listening from where I was when I turned the player off (unless I create a bookmark).
