Replacing Headphone Jack?
« on: November 01, 2005, 06:20:25 pm »
my headphone's connector broke off and there's still a piece left in the headphone jack of my Z which I can't reach
is it maybe possible maybe to remove the old jack and solder a new one to board? i think my warranty is probably void by now anyway..
or any ideas how i could get the last piece out? couldn't find any tweezers that small

Something you might try is to try to superglue the end of a toothpick to the stub of the jack and then pull it out with that.  Just be careful to use the minimum amount of superglue.

And when the superglue bleeds over into the socket, what then?

Probably not a good idea (not that I have any great ones myself).

All I can think of is to open your Z up and try to push it out from the other end.

I'm not sure I would risk ruining my Z over it though.

no risk, no fun! your idea worked, thanks a lot!
was quick and easy, just put the tiniest amount possible on the tip of the pick.

I'll be damned

I tried fooling around on mine and the amount of "pull" required was enormous (for its size). But mines' a virgin so it was bound to be tighter (I don't use the earjack, I prefer my iRiver for music and video).

How's it go? "Luck favors the brave"?
