Planex Gw-cf11h Working With Kismet
« on: November 10, 2005, 09:19:30 pm »
Has anyone managed to get this card working with Kismet/Sharp ROM 1.01.  The problem seems to be connecting to the "dummy server"  I have a horrible feeling that this card isn't going to sniff?  Any help would be really appreciated as this is the second card I have bought and it ain't doing what I want - plus I am quickly running out of money!

Specks,
I have the same card, and it does have a problem "connecting" to any ad hoc network. One thing that seems to work, is if you reboot, it will automatically "connect" long enough, if you go to a terminal and run "kismet_server", then start kismet. The server will usually die but you can at least get what the server picked up.

With this card, I haven't (yet) been able to use Kismet, but it did work fine with Wellenreiter in ad-hoc mode (using the Cacko 1.23beta ROM on my C3000).

I've just re-installed Sharp ROM v1.11 and will try again a fresh start to get Kismet working, I'll let you know if I ever suceed!

DoTheDog,

Thanks for the reply I have rebooted and it seems to connect to the adhoc server all the time now.  I started the kismet server as suggested but when I ran Kismet it still didn't connect do you run kismet from the terminal?  and if so what is the command line you use? ie kismet?

havn't tried loading Wellenreiter I will give it a go does anyone know anything about Discoverer?

Still no luck Kismet cann't connect to the server and Wellenreiter says it can't open packet capture any help would be much appreciated as getting sniffing working is paramount for me!

I run "kismet_server" from a terminal then run kismet from the Qt menu. Its a bit of a pain because it always asks for the driver every time. But it will usually pick up what the kismet_server caught. kismet_server usually dies after it connects.

I'm having no luck at all - it will not even connect to the kismet_server.  It's time to buy the pretec card does it work?  and will this be an out of the box solution?
