Io Data Cf Xga Adapter - Where Can I Buy In The Us
« on: November 16, 2005, 02:16:20 pm »
Where can I buy the IO Data CF XGA adapter? I know Trisoft has it in Europe, but in the US there are no clear distributors. From the IO Data site the price seems to be $175. Is that so?

I am located outside the US, but usually purchase in the use through a "package relay" company in Miami. I tried to access the IO Data shop but they block IP's from the US to enter their store, therefore, I need another retailer. I've sent a couple of emails to their sales but no response.

Any help pointing me in the wright direction?

Regards,

Otto

I have checked the iodata website - the XGA adapter is (currently) $119.-

Maybe somebody in the US can order it for you?

Alternatively: conics has it for about $210.-

Or you could contact Pricejapan ( IO data is in Japan I think) - and maybe they are willing to get you one from Japan directly.

Io Data is no longer making these in Japan. I have a rep I use from IO Data and he stated we purchased the last units and all they had left were going to be used for warranty. TRIsoft has all remaining units as we sent them. You may want to contact Marc. If enough of you in the US need them and Marc has enough stock its possible he could ship us some here.

wow, that's almost $100 difference. I would buy it for $119 but not $210 since I am not even sure whether the card works properly on the C3x00 so it could end up collecting dust on the shelf.

It probably works. The Cacko rom has the "Mirror" application included. Mirror drives the card ( I think).  Maybe Maslowsky can confirm?

Also, IOData has on their website an "unofficial" driver for a range of Zaurus models. Some of those most probably work on the C3x00 as well...

If however Streamline is correct, that these are not available any more, than the whole point becomes useless ( although it seems that you CAN order them on the IOData website for $119)

Hi all,

the IOData card works with every SL-C series. The only thing is
that the SHARP Presenter is not preinstalled on the SL-C3100 like
it is on all other models.

Stephen is right that we got all the rest-stock from IOData. If it's
correct that IOData lists these cards with $119 now, our comment
would be "OUCH !" (because we paid much more).

There's no big driver-thingy needed. Imagine these card like a
memory card that displays the memory content. Looking at the
sourcecode of the mirror utility (about one screen of code) gives
a good impression how this card works.

Well here is the Deal I spoke with Jack today he is in charge of Iodata buisness relations. He said they have 10 total units left in stock as of today. Once they are gone there will be no more units. They generally sell 5 units a day so by the weekend there will be no more.

Do you have the phone number of this Jack? The IO Data website only states the fax number.

So IO-Data decided to EOL the CF XGA card as well

Seems like this leaves the only VGA CF card in production mode to be the one offered by
http://www.colorgraphic.net/newsite/produc...d_overview.html

Unfortunately, this one does not support the Zaurus and is expensive++

Let me tell you how it all went for me. And maybe this will help someone in the future:

As the IO-Data website only states a fax number, yesterday night I set for locating the company, getting the damn phone number and make the purchase by phone (as I get my IP blocked at the web store because I am located outside the US).

After some browsing and with help from the address, I got that the company that represents IOData in the US is:

Kaga Electronics (USA) Inc.
2480 N First Street, Suite 100
San Jose, CA 95131

Phone: (408) 570-0955
FAX:     (408) 570-0186
E-mail: info@taxan.com
web: www.taxan.com

There, I called today and coordinated with Hiromi Kaneko <hkaneko@iodata.com> by email, she is in sales for IOData. As Streamline pointed out, IOData's CF XGA is EOL, therefore if you buy and the device is defective, they might refund you, but they do not have extra units to exchange. I bought mine today under those conditions (better those than not having it...) for $130 including Shipping and Handling to MIA.

Also, regarding future "substitutes" of this device, IOData is getting out of this business because

".....I  reply to your question instead of Hiromi.

Unfortunately I-O Data group do not provide next model as PDA market  became very small in Japan also US.

Therefore I-O Data group finish to supply this  category of product....."

Being said this, I think Streamline's effort to get software for other similar devices is worthed and should be supported, because this specific device has been cancelled from the product line of IOData.

Hope this helps anyone that is thinking wheather or not to buy one of this. Once they are gone, they are gone, and I think one of the reasons to buy one of this C3XX is to practically substitute the laptop in many ways. For Business,.... this implies necessarily the ability to show presentations with projectors.

Otto don't forget for the guys in Europe and anywhere for that matter TRIsoft does still have 20+ of these cards available although they did pay quite a bit more than they are selling for now they are still available until we get the next solution.

You are right. I remember this item costing very close to what Trisoft is selling them. The US pricing at IOData reflects that they are "getting rid" of the lot they have. And as you point out, this is available until the next solution.

One thought on this. What would be best for the next solution, to get the sharp application working for another CF VGA card as Streamline has pointed out or to try to use the USB capabilities for a USBtoVGA device, such as:

http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/akiba/hotli...etc_usbvga.html (by the way, I do not undestand Japanese, Just found it by googleling and saw the picture)

or this one for $59
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...09366&CatId=466

Here is an interesting site for USB2VGA using Xfree
http://www.winischhofer.at/linuxsisusbvga.shtml

Maybe Trisoft and Streamline can lead the development of this capability for USB?

Otto

I have contacted a VGA cf card manufactuer to see if they would be interested in making a card for Z users and of course we would supply a machine for there testing purposes hoping to hear back from them. I will get with Marc from TRIsoft and see what other possibilities we can come up with.

USB to VGA devices almost universally *require* USB 2.0 480mbps transfer rates, which the Z can't do. They won't even bother trying at lower connection speeds, so are useless to us.

Someone posted not long ago about one device that would continue to work at low speeds, but I'm not sure it even has linux drivers.

Even if it did, it wouldn't be very functional - very slow framerates.
