have heard of these but never seen them in the wild, procedure should be the same as every other "i want to replace the microdrive in the zaurus" post, ie just format and partion then do a hard drive restore from CF using the diagnostic menu

I got a Seagate yesterday from Amazon. Great deal with rebate, Credit Card application discount, and Free downloads from Real......think the final cost was $126 shipped, plus the free music.
Anyway, I plugged it in, listened to it whir into action, downloaded about 5Gb of Movies and Podcasts and assorted files to it. It works perfectly, plays video smoothly with no issues, seems to spin up really fast, in fact I notice no real speed difference accessing files compared with a 512Mb Sandisk CF.
You do need to add something to enable pulling it out of the slot (tape) if you switch the card  for, say, a WiFi CF card, but isn't that true for all Microdrives?
I am a happy camper.

What about replacing the internal 4GB drive of SL-C3x00 with that one? Has anyone tried that?

Well, I found a starnge anomaly with the 8gb seagate: When I plug in the sl-c1000 to the PC with the USB cord, I can see the seagate, see the folders on it, but not upen the folders to see any files.
Anyone got any clues? The palmtop worked fine this way with CF solid state cards.

Try formatting it using the Z (liketo NTFS)

I only get a volume of 7.43GB on the supposed 8GB volume though. I expect to "lose" some, but that seems like too much, no?? Even with "view all files" enabled on the PC, the drive is empty, just only 7.43GB. IE: there are no lurking hidden files.

This is because drive makers are sneaky. They consider 8 gb to be 8,000,000,000 bytes but your ccomputer considers a gb to be 1024 * 1024 * 1024 bytes and not an equal 1 million.

Therefore your 8 gb "advertised size" is really only 7.45 gb in size.

I compared the latest microdrive (decent priced): Seagate 8G and Hitachi 6G in This Post. If the specs are true, the only advantage of Seagate is 2G more capacity and 2M cache.

I will probably get the Hitachi 6G in next month. It's interesting to see if the performance of the Hitachi outshadows the Seagate in real life.
