A question about the game;

My wife got up to level 15 then says that she is stuck. Is there something she's missng, or is this a bug? She goes from the big cell to the little cell, then to the 3rd little cell, then when you have to move the blocks there appears to be an inescapable trap. This is before you have access to the gun or the key, both which would make it escapable.

No bugs... does this mean she wants to cheat?

TheGreenKnight: Are your patches available somewhere? I will probably look at GNU Robbo soon (so it can appear in OZ, Familiar etc) so why I have to rediscover bugs etc?

Robbo was nice game on 8bit Ataris - it will be great to have it on Z.

Nah, that would be too much like cheating. Anyway, she found it.

Initially I was going to do a simple port but GNU Robbo Linux uses SDL-ttf, so I had to make more changes than I thought necessary. I have passed my source onto the original maintainer of the GNU Robbo project and he has made me admin so at some time I/we will include the work I have done on the original project so that you can build for PC or Zaurus via #define's.

At this moment in time I do not have time to do both especially since I am new to Open Source development and am not yet familiar with CVS or maintaining a Sourceforge account. Perhaps over Christmas I will have the luxury of being able do some research and combine things properly. It will be done because I know that GNU Robbo comes with Mandrake/Mandriva distros and Linspire so there are desktop users who would like to see a new version with extra levels etc.

My current objectives are:-
1. New levels (Robbo VIII, IX and X)
2. Stylus support
3. Merge changes into original project.
Then whatever other enhancements I can think of.

Regards.

After finding that some of the levels of this game were 'almost' too difficult to complete with a 5xxx model in the portrait mode I've made a little enhancement to help.

It's only an ipk that adds another icon for landscape. It uses the same icon with a different name (GNURobbo-Landscape), so you will have two GNURobbo icons after installing with different names. It starts the game in the landscape mode and you should go to options>game speed, and lower the speed about 2 positions for the same play speed as the potrait mode.

With the aid of this little enhancement I've completed all 52 levels on my Z... some in portrait and some in landscape, the two different icons makes it a bit easier!

Please note that this has only been tested with the latest gnurobbo_0.57.03_arm.ipk installed on the 5xxx models, and would really have no use on the Cxxx models.

Greg

Here it is:
Edit: Sorry the ipk has been removed for repairs over the weekend.

Greg, does this mean, that you are able to start the program with the icon?

If I click on the GNURobbo icon on my C3100 it does not start at all...

Launching it from console works great...

Yes, but it simply starts it with:
gnurobbo -320x240

instead of:
gnurobbo

How are you starting it in the console?

No, I'm refering to the new ipk that I made for the 5xxx model... so we can choose from portrait or landscape because we can't see as much of the game as you can on your Cxxxx.

It sounds like your in landscape and the game is trying to start in portrait?

Edit:
Are you using the latest ipk (0.57.03)? This sounds more like Exec in the icons desktop file can't find the rungnurobbo script?

Sorry but I don't have a Cxxxx to check it... maybe Cresho will check this out and fix it?

Try to start it with:
gnurobbo -640x480

if that works then simply edit your:
/opt/QtPalmtop/bin/rungnurobbo
Code: [Select]
#!/bin/bash
gnurobbo -640x480

@Cresho
Everything you need is in the gnurobbo_0.57.03_zaurus_source.tar.gz attached to a post in the previous page of this thread.

Thanks

Greg

Greg, I am using the most recent version from GreenKnight,  which works great when I just enter gnurobbo in the console. No need to select screen size.

I will try to edit the rungnurobbo file tonight to see what it does...

I tried installing the " gnurobbo_l_0.57.03_landscape_arm.ipk " on my sl5500 (tKc ROM) and the installer gave me a message that the package was named improperly (forgot the exact wording) then, "do you want to ignore this error." I chose yes to ignore it as the alternative it offered looked like it would just overwrite the existing package. It installed and the icon is there, but it will not start from the icon or the command line. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong???

Greg, you were right.

The rungnurobbo file has only "gnurobbo" in it - so there is nothing to fix...
