Problem with Flashing to OPIE ROM
« on: August 21, 2003, 03:50:30 pm »
I just tried to flash my CL-570 with the OPIE image using the CF updater.
Everything goes fine untill in the
--- Zaurus CF updater --- menu the device hangs after the following message:
---              Finish!          ---
Rebooting
INIT: Switching to runlevel: 6
INIT: Sending processes the TERM signal
Rebooting the system…

I read the Zaurus should reboot itself, but I waited for several hours and nothing happened. What\'s more....After I took out the battery and did it back in, the device did nothing...
It took me several days and a lot of help from Trisoft (Germany) to restore a NAND Backup using the D+M key combination.

Does someone know what I am doing wrong?

I use a FAT formatted CF card and the Zaurus CF updater writes the kernel and system files with succes.

Thabks
John

Last I knew, OZ on the 7x0 is still experimental, and not even available for the 760 yet.  Follow this thread on the devnet forums for more details on this.

You may want to try the custom rom built by sash.  I have it working on my 760, and it\'s great!  Detailed installation instructions are here.

good luck

Yes I just figured out that the reboot problem is because the OPIE ROM is for the CL-700, not the 750.
The custum build ROM by Sash looks great, but now Netfront stopped working \"Netfront can only run on an Zaurus 750 models\"

Thanks,

JOhn

Also I can\'t find a lot of the applications that are mentioned: Konsole, etc. Is this because I have a CL-750?

By the way I saw you have the Ooera browser on your zaurus CL-760, how did you do that. I can only find it for the 5500 series

John

I\'ve heard of one other person having trouble with netfront on the 750/760 (don\'t remember which).  There\'s a thread to follow on the externe forums (www.externe.net/zaurus/forum), where Sash is trying to figure that one out.

As far as konsole, opera and the other apps... they should just be pre-installed on your Z.  You can find konsole in the Applications tab, and Opera in the Network tab.

Thanks,
I will check that forum out.

Do you mean Opera was installed before you flashed your unit with the custom ROM? I have my 750 from Trisoft.de and not from Dynamism. Maybe the ROMs are different?
If you got Opera with installing the custom ROM, maybe I should try again.
Greetings,

John
