Few Questions
« on: November 26, 2005, 10:56:40 pm »
Ok, I have just a few questions...
I originally had a dedicated CF card for updating the rom, etc. but it no longer works.  I've got Opie and GPE installed and the root is on the SD card.

1.  I'm wondering if it's possible to use the ConnectPlus card to upgrade to 3.5.4RC and still be able to use it as the wireless afterwards.  I understand (unless things changed recently) that I can not use the memory and the Wifi on the card at the same time.

2.  If that's not possible, what's the easiest way to remove GPE without having to redo the entire Z due to not having a "real" CF card?

3.  Can anyone point me to some docs, in reference to learning more I can do when I ssh into the Z? (I use it at work and sometimes can't get it to do what I want when it's supposed to)

Collie OZ 3.5.3 - Opie 1.2, GPE ?
512MB SD
SanDisk Connect Plus 128MB CF/Wifi

Can't really answer your first two questions, but SSH "just worked" out of the box for me.  Dropbear was installed (this is on the 3.5.4-rc) and I could ssh over using root@device and then no passwd (I quickly set a password  ).

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the response, but that's not what I meant with the SSH.  I can SSH over to it, but it's been years since I was into Linux much, so I was talking about docs that could teach me different stuff that I can do while I'm SSH'ing.

Example, I'm running GPE and Opie together on my SD and if I use the icon I created in Opie to switch over to GPE I can't always get back to Opie without changing the Virtual Terminal via SSH.

Anyway, I'm going to try updating to 3.5.4-RC later today with the ConnectPlus... I figure my laptop reads it as CF since I didn't install the wireless drivers so I can copy the files over and with the Z not being "on" when you flash it should think it's CF too...

(I'll edit this later to let you guys know if it works)

Dropbear is a ssh server that provides remote shell access to your zaurus. It enables you to log into your zaurus and to execute commands in a shell. The default shell in OpenZaurus is the Bourne shell, or sh. So what you are looking for is a howto of the shell, not ssh or dropbear.
Although sh is used as an interactive command interpreter, it was always intended as a scripting language. A few links to tutorials of the shell:

Thanks 7 feet,
I'm going to read those later... no real rush because the SanDisk wouldn't work for flashing it...   Not sure how the Z detects it as the wifi card when the Z is powered off.

I'm going to just buy a new cheap CF card sometime after the holidays...
