Joysticks

I've read that meanie has had some success with USB joysticks on his Z.
When I get my Z I would like to play some games (SNES, perhaps?) with a gamepad/joystick.

1a. What USB joysticks/gamepads have people had success with?

   1b. What configuring did you have to do to get them to work?

2. What software (for Cacko/pdaXrom) supports joysticks?

I second this, it would be great, I was thinking of a usb type plugin or... even better a powered by a few AA batts, I was thinking of using the IR port and a ir-keyboard driver hmmm it could be done, old nintendo controller then a small breakout box with the keyboard hardware. I'm smelling a project coming on. I can ise a PIC to send the keys via IR. Just hav to figure out what format the IR keyboard sends in? Does anyone know this? Or perhaps the author of the IR keyboard can tell me what the program is looking for. This can be done.

btw the breakout box would be the size of 4 AA bartteries or two 9 volts

I got just a little bit confused following that.  You want to hack an old NES controller to send data over a transmitter designed for an IR keyboard?

Hmm... I dimly recall there being IR NES controllers; I wonder if you could make those work. I noticed there's a nice bluetooth gamepad out there, BGP100 (or Smart Gamepad / Chainpus Gamepad) that seems frustratingly close to a good solution for the Cxx0 / Cxx00 Z models but wouldn't wuite fit. Does anyone know if there are any devices out there like this that might work well with a Z? Personally attaching a joystick via USB doesn't do it for me - I'd like something that becomes "part of" the Z so I could play games on the go (in a train or bus, etc.) without having to prop up the Z on my knees.

A lot of the emulators do work with joysticks, so in theory, if you have a driver for the usb joystick, it should just work.

actually I purchased a usb keyboard 15.00 and a snes controller 5.00, and created a snes controller with a usb cord, the pushbuttons corrospond to the keypress input into the little usb keyboard controller, works perfectly.

i just havent had time to do it myself cuz of Nursing school.  It is killing me.

you know your right, I need to post the keyboard model number and whatnot. Actually all I basically did was tear apart the keyboard and trace the membraine pads(letters that corospond to movements/functions) to the pin locations on the little pcb then solder the buttons from the snes controller to those locations, basically I am mimic'ing the keyboard. Oh wait, I think it was a Dynex keyboard (usb type)Model: DX-MKB101. Got it at best buy. Will have pinouts sometime this week(I have to find them...the notes that is)

it just got recognized, perhaps inputhelper is what I installed and thats why it got recognized. I also run cacko, so he might have included usb keyboard modules as well.

That is exactly what i am talking about.

I remember someone some other site using files to get a keypad to work without  drivers.  It acted like a keyboard and needed keyboard drivers for the zaurus.
