Visualboy Advance On The 6000
« on: December 03, 2005, 02:28:50 am »
Well, after rooting around on the boards here for hours, I feel I've reached enough of an impasse to create a new post. Here's the story:

I've been very happy with the original sharp rom thus far, as I've gotten it to sync with my computer, look pretty, play video well via zplayer, and surf the net, all thanks to posts/instruction on the board. The last thing that I want to get working to make me very happy with my power palmtop would be to get VisualBoy Advance working at normal speed. I have gotten it to work and load roms, but of course they only run at 40-60% speed, even with the sound off.

working conditions (though slow):

libSDL_1.2.6cvs-1_arm.ipk
zlib_1.1.4-2_arm.ipk
visualboyadvance_1.7-SDL-1_arm.ipk

After having read posts on this board, I've seen that it requires the fast kernel and Guylhem's libSDL in order to work passably. Now, here's the problem: I've attempted on a numerous ocassions to load in the fast kernel, and have followed Guylhem's directions verbatim (I'm reasonably competent at following directions), and have gotten different problems each time. Once it was the SD and Wifi, next attempt it wouldn't even load due to a missing module (the ochi one) and various other module problems. That stuff aside, I couldn't do the overclock from the battery applet like in the Guylhem rom. As I'm not so skilled with this stuff, I had to restore my old nand image.

So I decided to abandon that mess for the simplicity of the Guylhem nand backup. After using his rc4 image, I could overclock, I got VBA to load, and function through loading the emulator, but the GBA "screen" was black and the system locked up. I have used selfabuse's configuration from another post on this board, and still no luck...

Which leaves me stuck here, with my original image, and some questions.

1) is the VBA ipk from its author (http://www.suhami.net/zaurus/index.cgi?Emulator%2FVBA) not compatible with the Guylhem rom?
2) due to my incompetence i can't get the fast kernel to work with the Sharp Rom, have people had success with this (to the point of getting wifi/sd to work reliably?)
3) if so, could anyone spare a nand backup of fast kernel with sharp rom that I could format and make my own?

I hate to beg, but it looks as though I'm not saavy enough to do this stuff on my own. I am definitely new to Linux, but have been learning, as I now have 2 linux computers. I am also looking forward to Guylhem's next revision, and will convert to it fully if the launcher is fixed (icons/uninstall) and the wifi applet is included.

I'm sorry I'm not more useful, but my woeful abilities have left me to testing out the various scenarios presented on this board, which I must say is QUITE extensive in terms of content. I am happy to have the support of such experts, and am grateful for all of your efforts. Even if you're working on something for yourself, posting your experiences helps newbies like me.

Thanks very much!

Chris.

Please post your final timings once you've gotten things as fast as they'll get. I was under the impression 40-60% was as good as it gets (so far anyways)
