I've got a 4GB Adata SD card gathering dust since my faithful cacko doesn't seem to recognise it.
Anybody has been able to ues these cards on any distro.
I was checking the customisation page on
http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/
the author explains he's got a 4GB SD card but doesn't say anything special about it.

There's no such things as a 4GB SD card. The max SD currently available is 2GB and it does not work on the Z without hacking around. Max for SD is 1GB if you need something working out of the box. The 4GB variety is the CF card which work out of the box.

You are mistaken - there are 4GB SD cards - three for auction right now on Ebay, in fact.
However, no Zaurus can handle an SD card over 1MB, AFAIK, this is a hardware limitation. I couldn't even get my Windows laptop to read a 2GB SD card either, btw.
I you want to use more than 1MB on a card, CF is the only way.
