Heh... I'm not that old, but my first computer came with just 4K of memory and the 4K memory expansion (giving a whopping 8K) cost me £25, or about US$45. Given inflation, that's about £60 or US$90 in today's money. That's the equivalent of £10 per K, or £10000 per megabyte, or £10M per gigabyte, compared to about £70 per gigabyte at the moment. I literally built it with a soldering iron - even the keyboard was a kit of switches.
My first printer was an old teletype ASR33, printing at 10 chars per second.
