Stupid Bluetooth Question
« on: December 15, 2005, 12:39:20 pm »
Uh, I know it will seem easy once you point me in the write direction. I have a BT (USB) dongle that I use for my laptop, which can bond with my mobile phone so I can use it as a modem.

If I plug the BT dongle into my C1000 (using the new Cacko OS) - what do I need to do to make it work?

Thanks in advance
L.

Hi folks!

I tried to connect a 3100 (Cacko 1.23) with a SuSE 10 Desktop using Belkin usb-bluetooth (F8T012). I followed the HowTo on oesf to create a PAN: first I tried the PAN-Applet. With Desktop as "listening", Zaurus will find the desktop-adapter (nice blue applet on KDE and "connected" on Zaurus). Ping Zaurus->dekstop is OK, Desktop->Zaurus does not work.
Any idea how to configure SuSE/KDE??

The second way
on Zaurus
pand --role PANU --service NAP --connect xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx --nodetach
  ifconfig bnep0 10.0.0.2
  route add default gw 10.0.0.1
and
  ifconfig bnep0 10.0.0.1
  echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
  iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE
 on desktop
no error message, but also no ping?

Most people seems to use  Win-Desktops. Is there any Linux-user with an idea??

yours
Markus

I picked up a small bluetooth dongle at Fry's its by Cables Unlimited. It was 29 USD.
I got it to work with my laptop and my mobile phone (moto V760).

The BTDongle uses the Widcomm Driver (FYI)

So this is what I did for my C1000 (further known as Gimlet).
I went into network and chose BT-PPP. Then for each tab as follows:
I setup my ISPaccount.
For modem I took the BT Device /dev/rfcomm0
Network, added my ISP's DNS servers.
Left proxies alone.
Bluetooth, I checked Bind and then had my mobile phone search for Gimlet. I then got a "Bind with Zaurus" message on my mobile. Once I responded Yes, I was asked for the Binding code and I entered 1234. Once I did that, the Devices and BT address fields were filled in.

I was then able to then connect to the internet - though sometimes I get a message box that reads "TCP error" when in either the Opera or NetFront browsers. Still sorting that out. once I can do that with no errors then it is off to email.

If anyone has ideas about the "TCP" error please let me know.

No - (why?) and again I do not have this issue when I connect this way with my Laptop computer.

12:00 Update: The problems has been resolved? It seem I only ge the error when using the NetFront Browser, I was able to connect with NO issues via Opera. And I have now been able to send and recieve email.

So this Bluetooth Dongle WORKS

This is great - since I used a friends Bluetooth USB dongle and after a few intial trieds couldnt get it to work. I really didnt try hard.

So now that it works (and thanks for the help in stating how), I can get a dongle .
Another question though - how is it possible to "BEAM" a contact from the KaPI via Bluetooth dongle to the phone or vice-versa ? Since my phone doesnt have a IrDA port, I want to "beam" via bluetooth. Is this possible ? Or is the beam a totallly Irda based transport mechanism ?

Thanks in advance
