What Pim Do You Use With Cacko?
« on: December 17, 2005, 11:53:55 am »
I'm getting by with the default PIM software, but know there has to be something better.

I must say that the Cacko beta has made a dramatic improvement.  I now have no problems syncing, and everything else seem to work fine.  The default PIM software is painfully slow and fairly inflexible though.

Suggestions anyone?
Opinions expressed are either that of my own, or someone else's.

I played with them for about a week and I came to the same concluson. Then I tried the   KA/PI and KO/PI open source ones and like some things and hated the todo list. I just bought the AddressBook, ToDo and Calendar from TheKompany.com - I also bought the zip, tetris clone, editor and file explorer. IF you buy 4 or more you can get a discount.

I have been using KA/PI and KO/PI since I got my Z.  Works OK, has a lot of functionality - but sometimes a little too much for what I need.  Laur - how do you like the apps from theKompany?  Do they run quicker than KA/PI and KO/PI?  Do they work well in landscape mode?

One big problem I have noticed with KO/PI is that if I set an alarm for an event or to-do, and then reboot the Z - the alarm does not work!  Does this happen with the theKompany apps?

I have set one alarm so far but have not done a reboot, maybe I will try that later today and let you know.
YES, they are fine in Lanscape mode, as theKompany has you select "your system" type and so I was able to get copies compiled for these newer machines and I think they do run faster.

I use JCards for contacts as it supports CSV files (Lowest common file type for any PIM) and will run on anything with Java. and TKC Calander for appointments etc as I dont sync with my work system.

KaPi/KoPi for me.

It works wonderfully, has a lot of features - not that I use all.
I dont sync with anything at all - my Zaurus is a standalone machine in all, so dont know about the Synching, though I cann see a lot of sync options.

Only drawback - it doesnt interface with the Sharp Email program (not KaPi's fault - Sharp emails prog is closed), but you can use Opie mail in that case.

I used the Kompany's PIM too... its good and looks clean and more user friendly on the 5500/5600 devices than the KaPi/KoPi. but now that I have been using Ka, I havent felt the need to go back to the Kompany apps.

The great thing about Kopi KaPI is the taskbar applet which shows you addresses, Calendar events etc in one convenient starting point.
