Good Buy For Cf Based Ethernet?
« on: December 25, 2005, 10:41:30 pm »
http://cgi.ebay.com/CF-LAN-ETHERNET-COMPAC...1QQcmdZViewItem

What do you all think?  It's chock full of specs!

Compatible out of the box with the C series or Cacko?

Is it a good buy?  Any other possibilities?

Thanks!

The pictures didn't load when I looked at the ebay page and the text of the ad does not say which brand/model is it. Generally ethernet cards work except for power issues. Socket, for instance, makes a 10/100 card and a low power one. The former doesn't work because the Zaurus can't provide enough power to it, while latter works fine. Don't know anything about the seller and I guess the price is OK. But I would try to find out which brand and model it is before buying.

I have no idea what the brand name is.  I was able to grab the photo from the page and attach it to this post.  I will ask the seller for more specifics.

Thanks!

I fired off an email to the seller of this card and got this information about the card:
---
BILLIONTON is the brand name. Power consumption is 42mA/3.3V.
The CFLT uses the Tamarack chipset, but I don't know what the power requirements are or if it will work on a Zaurus. If the Zaurus has a standard CF or PCMCIA slot and supports a NE2000 driver then it will work fine.
---
So can anyone tell me if this card will work in a C series machine?

Thanks!

Hi Scott,

it looks like the old version of the Billionton "CFLT2-10B", better
known as the famous BIL-10BT in our manual.

The 10BT cards are working fine with all Zauris. There're only
problems with the 10/100 MBit type. These won't work.
You may find this card also on our site : Billionton Lan/Modem cards

I have a Hawking 10/100 card and it works great.  I haven't noticed any unusual power problems with it.  I bought it off of MicroCenter's return table and I think I paid ~$30.  Froogle shows some for ~$39.

Or you could use a USB to Ethernet adapter for an even lower price ( and leaving the CF slot for other uses)

Well, admittedly, I wouldn't mind keeping my CF slot free for storage.  What sort of adapter works for this?  Do they come with the appropriate cabling as well?
