I depends...I\'m personally a big fan of mplayer. Not very fancy, but FAST! I think a lot of it\'s functionality may have been absorbed by XMMS, tho (with appropriate plugins?).

OP2 works for me.  Its basicaly Zine for the Zaurus.  I play mp3 avi and mpg files on it.  Though you do need a 8mb swap file set up to play full screen mpeg video on a 5500

TKCVideo does it for me.  I\'ve got all of the Extended Editions of Lord of the Rings on a Microdrive and take it with me.  Looks really nice in the landscape mode and sound is excellent.  Wish the display was a bit brighter though, but that\'s Zaurus for ya.

Try mplayer with the Mplayer Shell (java app). Make sure you get the mplayer ipk as well as the mplayer shell ipk from the Mplayer Shell page:

I think i had tried mplayer before, but will again. Im assuming works for sharp rom. If there are codec issues, is there a place to download codecs for the zaurus.

(sharp rom sl5600)

Thanks for your update Tumnus

The mplayer in the ipk mentioned has just about all the codecs available for the ARM CPU compiled in.

i got mplayer -noframedrop to work on a few avis. one didnt complained about codec.. Be interested if anyone has a better or more complete codec than came with mplayer, although thanks this is the furthest Ive gotten.

mplayer shell opens with first screeen on video, then shuts down, it does not play the video.

I don\'t think there is a RM Codec for the Zaurus -- personally ... I have Mplayer and OPIE Mediaplayer 2 on there and that plays most things.  I\'d like RM and QuickTime support but..............

Hentges 3.5.4.1
Kingmax 1gb SD
Lexar 1gb CF
Belkin IR Keyboard
Socket 56k Modem CF

RM and Quicktime are just the file wrappers. There are a whole host of codecs used in RM and Quicktime files. The problem is there often exists no open-source libraries for these codecs whatsoever, since they keep coming out with new codecs and only write Windows/Mac libraries. No one has the time to keep up with them all.

The only way I am able to play many trailers off the web using my Linux PC is using mplayer, which has a load of Win32 codec DLLs that are used WINE style to play just about anything. Of course those DLLs cannot be used on the Zaurus because of them being compiled for the x86 CPU. (Don\'t even think of CPU emulation).

So like I said, the Zaurus mplayer binaries have just about all the currently available open-source codecs compiled in already.

Ok,
heres an update. I started to try to test mplayer and the shell (which is basically runmplayer command).
Some files give me segmentation fault when trying to use mplayer shell
(see below). Ive never gotten anything to play with the shell, it doesnt do anything, and if you try to click play again, it just exits...
Now for mplayer some files dont work at all, the ones that do work.
If you run from console, the video is on screen but you also get the blinking video messages that overlay the video while its playing.
The only way I have avoided this and gotten some to play is ssh to the box, and invoke mplayer that way. Kinda is lame, as who wants to have to do that to play a video.
So, whats the secret to the shell? I have also set it up to run with root permissions as well? ALso if you run from console, any command to NOT PRINT the scrolling video messages. I dont want to have to modify the printk similar to open zaurus for not showing console messages.

THanks

# runmplayer
*** Dbg.java
dbgBits = 0x0
Dbg.java ***
Segmentation fault

I reencode my tv recordings in .ogm format.  I have to stick to certain parameters to get it playable with a decent framerate.   If you are interested :
