Its About Time To Start Packing! 3100 First Steps!
« on: January 11, 2006, 07:29:47 pm »
Hello,
I was planning to sent a PM only to "pqas" but since he is replying to all of my post
Im posting it for public help

As I have about 30 days ( yes I count them Im still "child"  lol ) until my trip to Japan I nedd some info on the software I will have to take with me!

1)Im thinking of ordering my Z from pricejapan (lowest price +2% delivaly on Tokyo)
Or should I go and buy it myshelf(+ other Z stuff.. see section 2 )?

2)What else should I buy? Host-usb(small about 8cm -2.5in-), case(not lether but smthng like cloth or fabric like PSP?)?I have BT usb so.. CF wifi is cheaper in japan or Trisoft or greece pqas??What else???(tiny USB LAN adaptor, stylus, charge and sync USB?)

3)I have a 512mb SD (from my ipaq) What files should I take with me?I have a restore and NAND backup from Trisoft(Ill use restore if I want english, right?) Should I first use cacko 1.23 or pdax or try to learn my Z first with stock rom? (In case of cacko or pdax please spacify what extra ipks should I take!)

4)I read a post about dead pixels!!!! Is this common to 3100???   Should I sent it back if I spot 1 or 2?? (In case of pricejapan they can sent it to service and back to my in greece)

Thnx and sorry for my bad english

As far as I know I have had 1 report of 1 pixel being stuck in the numbers we have sold it isn't a common problem.

Both my C760 and my C3100 each have one stuck pixel. When I first got my C760 I sent it to the local Sharp service department, and they sent me a replacement... with stuck pixels. I sent the replacement back and received another one... again, with a stuck pixel. I learned to live with it.

The pixel size on the Zaurus is so small that I never notice the stuck one (except when the screen is set to black, which is rare). Even if you get a bad pixel, I wouldn't worry about it.

The Pentopia is the best of the bunch:

For the LAN cards compatibility, you should try searching the various subforums here.

I wouldn't worry too much about stuck pixels.  They are usually pretty rare, and can sometimes even be unstuck via software (there is an app for PSP that can sometimes do this).  Even if they are there forever, you most likely won't even notice unless you look really hard.  I read an article once that talked about pixel problems being more prevalent due to everyone wanting cheaper LCDs, so the manufacturing process is cheaper and thus more prone to dead/bad pixels.  However, as I am in no way affiliated with the LCD industry in any way, so I cannot confirm this

I have read many posts around here of people using PSP power accessories with success.  AC Adapters, Power Bricks, etc.

It is exactly the same. Many people (including myself) use the PSP charger with the C3100
Zaurus C-3100 from PriceJapan with OZ 3.5.4.1. Opie and GPE
Ambicom CF WL1100C Wifi Card and Symbol Wireless Networker CF Wifi Card
1 GB Sandisk Ultra II SD

various smaller CF and SD cards
all kinds of USB cables and accessories

I just got a SL-C3100 from pricejapan and it had 1 stuck pixel... but as mentioned before unless its a totally black screen you can not see it, so it doesn't bother me at all.

I should also mention something about PSP accessories.  Be wary of cheap ones.  I'd trust the Sony AC adapter, but say you buy a "kit" with AC charger, car charger, and a USB cable for $15 USD.  I would not be excited about plugging a $700+ PDA that has to be imported from Japan into it.  I have a Pelican car charger for PSP that I haven't even plugged into my PSP yet  I just wanted a USB cable and some UMD cases...
