Hello, All,

I assume it is clear what this post is about. An emulator (more or less) of the Apple Newton OS running on a Zaurus. You can try to dowload the software from the link on the above post but note that this is on Slashdot now so the server might be slow. It is not clear that one needs OZ, though. You need a xserver so it might run on pdaXrom or even X/Qt, i don't know. One thing that you do need and they don't provide is a ROM image from a late model Newton. I only have an early model one, so I am out of luck. These images are apparently nowhere to be found on the net. Does Apple really care if you dump a ROM image and make it avaliable?

it won't work on pdaX or sharprom due to softfloat differences.

We do not want to put the ROM on the WEB, because we do not want a problem with APPLE!

But if you seek well on the site of the http://www.unna.org/[a href=\'http://www.unna.org/\' target=\'_blank\'][/a], it may be that you find that!

I put up a mirror on www.zaurus.org.uk downloads page if that helps.

Well the x11 implementation I've been using works fine - OZ/GPE. At least as good as pdaX the last time I tried it, and it has the added benefit of being more up to date (2.6.x kernel, etc.) and has a useful version of ipkg onboard.

Obviously this is just my opinion

Time to try out the Einstein emulator!

I am trying to run einstein on an ipaq 3600 running Familiar/GPE. First it complained that that libstc++ was not installed and, after a few tries, I got it to install with a -force-depends. Then it complained that the clock wasn't set (why should it fucking care?) so I set the clock. Now it complains that my ROM image is not 8MB long. Now I found, following some hints, this file called "Senior CirrusNoDebug image" which is 8.9MB long and I thought this was it. Any help there?

Update: I cut the first 8MB of that file using dd and now it complains about error reading ROM image, so it's not just wrong size.

Sylvain, I am not sure I understand your question, but is the return key not working?

Thank you to describe all the details of your procedure of installation,
to make some benefit all.

You speak well about the ROM Newton?

Execute Einstein under GPE?

My question is how to leave environement the GPE on version 3.5.4-RC, because the "logout" return on the window of "login", how to return in only shell?

Thanks

I think you should be able to run '/etc/init.d/gpe-dm stop'

Otherwise ctrl-alt-backspace a few times will kill the x-server and drop to a login prompt (assuming you have those keys mapped - the c7x0 machines do).
