Right then Sharp, if you can release a new Clamshell Zaurus this year with a 2.6 kernel, Qtopia Core, updated Hancom Office (WITH SPELL CHECKERS AND PROPER SAVE DIALOGUES!!), Intel 2700g, Integrated wifi and bluetooth and a decent amount of RAM (at least 128MB so we can run KDE under pdaxrom) then you are onto a WINNER. Such a machine could realistically replace my desktop for everything but big compiles or video encoding.

Does X.org 7.0 support the 2700g? I'm hoping Intel have/ will be releasing open source drivers like they do for their desktop graphics chipsets.

I hope this gets (eventually) ported over for the other Zaurii to use... The Sharp ROM, while adequate, is harely fun to use some days... I would love to have some of these additional features.

According to lpotter @ trolltech, some time ago he said it should be possible to have a hybrid system which has the qt-2.3.2/embedded plus the sharp proprietary qtopia-1.5 libraries so that Sharp apps can run, whilst running the latest Qtopia 2.2 (and presumably QT/E 4).

On the other hand, Anton of Cacko fame, seems to think this would not be possible (so I am guessing nigh on impossible).

Given that Sharp are still using kernel 2.4 on the 3100, and I think their proprietary version of qtopia 1.5 (which has some library and driver hacks which aren't opensource), then I can't see Sharp switching to kernel 2.6 + qt4. Our best hope in this respect is that OpenZaurus starts to get ahead.

Qtopia 2.2 use qt/e 2.3.12 so if you will compile it with gcc 2.95 then Sharp apps should work.

There is no qt/embedded 4 released yet - only snapshots.
