Problem Installing Kino2
« on: January 30, 2006, 08:41:39 pm »
I downloaded kino2, mplayer, sudo and batteryapplet as per the instructions on Maslovsky's page to install on my C860 Sharp ROM. I installed sudo and then the battery applet and the Zaurus rebooted by itself and kept rebooting. It would go to the screen that has CG graphics, Zaurus and something in Japanese starting with 1, which I guess says please wait one minute. Then it would quickly flash a boot message too quick to read, go back to that screen and be like that. Removing and replacing the battery would bring the same again. I fixed it by going to the boot menu (hold OK on power up) and selecting the third option (erase all) which brought the Z back to factory condition (japanese and all), from where I could restore from backup (phew!).

Now I am afraid of installing kino2 again. Anything I did wrong? Any step I should avoid?

Thanks,

Felipe

Probably the battery applet.  If it happens again you can boot to console and uninstall the offending application.

Thanks. But will kino2 work without the battery applet? Why does it need it anyway?

You might be reading the instructions for the cxx00 series where you can use the applet to change the cpu speed.  It should work without the applet.

It can be used for C860 too, but you need to flash Tetsu kernel as well...

Here is what is written on the website:

On ROMs other than Cacko a sudo package is needed to be able to change CPU frequency during playback!
Sudo package for Sharp ROM 3.10 can be downloaded here.
Also, an updated battery applet needs to be installed: qtopia-commbbatteryapplet_1.0.6_arm.ipk

Maybe the wording needs to be clarified. Thanks Maslovsky and Xamindar for your replies. I went ahead and installed kino2, mplayer and sudo (but not the battery applet) and it all went well. I tested with an avi movie made with my digital camera and it played well. However, I tried to play the first episode of the comedy series "the IT staff", downloaded from this URL
http://edge.channel4.com/theitcrowd/episode1_c4web.wmv
and the sound plays but the video doesn't. Any suggestions? (The video plays fine with mplayer on my desktop computer).

Thanks again,

Felipe

Hi,

Unfortunately, I have exactly the same problem as jfv.   xamindar  replied with "Probably the battery applet. If it happens again you can boot to console and uninstall the offending application."

I wonder if anyone could give me a few more directions about how I would boot into console mode and from there how I could uninstall the battery.ipk from the command line?

Many thanks for your help,
Slade.
