Oz/opie On My Sl-c860
« on: February 02, 2006, 08:21:44 am »
So far I did try both 3.5.3 and old 3.5.4-RC and here what can I say about it:
the system is nice and as functional as with Sharp/Cacko ROM, and far more than pdaXrom
The 3.5.3 is lacking a video player in his default packaging, but it's "solve" in 3.5.4-RC
Anyway, the 3.5.4-RC is quite a good rom...the wifi work just find, far better than with others rom! once configured, it just do everything by itself.
We do find many software for OPIE on the web...
etc.
Good rom... BUT!...
I'm having major bug, or at least, they are realy anoying and prevent me of using this ROM:

-the Fn key in not working, so the Zaurus loose a lot of his comfort... on the 3.5.4-RC, I didnt found a clipboad icon, so I didnt even had a way to copy/past!

-the screen seems like refreshing slowly so I can see it “vibrating”. I don’t know if it’s a known bug… but I never saw this with others ROM (pdaXrom, sharp, cacko), and it do kinda "waste" the beauty of the Zaurus' screen...
Anyway, we do see it only when we are quite close to the screen, but since the zaurus have a quite small screen for his resolution, that's what's I do most of the time...
It's probably a problem with the graphic chips drivers or with the screen configuration...

I did send a comment here hoping to have the chance testing the last 3.5.4-RC
Regards

That's not good. Could you file a bug report about that then?

Hmm, there should be a 'taskbar' applet, did you look in launcher to see whether it's available but just not enabled? Otherwise it may need to be installed.

Si

P.S. If you can get hold of a later RC from hrw then see how that works just in case some of this stuff is fixed (odd about the Fn key though as that's was certainly working in my home-brew RC images)
C750 OZ3.5.4 (GPE, 2.6.x kernel)
SL5500 OZ3.5.4 (Opie)
Nokia 770
Serial GPS, WCF-12, Socket Ethernet & BT, Ratoc USB
WinXP, Mandriva

Well, I've put the Cacko ROM back, but I will test the GPE just to see what it look like, as it have the same kernel as OPIE, I should have the same problem...
Then I will back all the files on the Zaurus before puting other ROM on it, so I can send the proper files if needed.

Anyway, you didnt said anything about the screen, may I understand it's a OPIE problem?
Anyway, you have a C750, it's quite similar to mine, may I test your home-brew RC image?

ok, I'm testing it, what can I say now is all my previous problem seems remain.
But actualy,  I don't know if it was the same before -probably yes-, the Fn key is actualy working, but not properly. The keymap must a little corrupted because when I do Fn+backspace it does a normal backspace instead of Del
The zoom out/in don't work, but it might be a feature problem.
But the luminosity key don't work neither, and as OPIE does handle luminosity control, I'm not sure if it's normal or not...
Also, the Ctrl ans alt key don't work (it did work on GPE, so I could do Ctrl+C for copy, etc.)

Well this version seems nice, but still have those annoying problem, probably due to OZ itself (except for Ctrl key that work on GPE). The difference with before:
The sound is as good as with sharp/cacko ROM, it wasnt before.
I don't know why but now the toolbar is damn small

also I never did test it before but PDF viewer do quite with SIGSEGV when I do enable embedded fonts...

Patches to the keymap are welcome. Fixing / editing a keymap isn't difficult, it just takes some time.

Zooming doesn't work on Opie currently.

Opie doesn't support changing brightness via keys AFAIK, this can be made to work with GPE tho.

Also, the Ctrl ans alt key don't work (it did work on GPE, so I could do Ctrl+C for copy, etc.)

Opie and GPE share the same kernel keymap. GPE reconfigures somes key, as does Opie. Ctrl, and Alt should work in any case.

rm -rf /home/root/Settings should help, known Opie problem with outdated configs IIRC
