Newbie Question: Trouble Installing Applications
« on: February 03, 2006, 09:26:12 am »
I am new at this so please be patient with me.  I have a Zaurus SL5500 with a 256mB SD card and any number of CF cards.  I recently installed OpenZaurus 3.5.3 with opie.  The installation went flawlessly.  I used the 64-0 memory model.

I ran into problems when I tried to install any applications.  I have tried the package manager that comes with the OZ 3.5.3 distribution, I have tried the command line, I have tried installing to the SD card and to ram with no success.  The feedback always comes back with something about libraries that are out of date.  I am assuming that the distribution contains all of the latest libraries, so it is likely operator error.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thanks for your help

Are you installing from the correct feed?

There was a minor problem with the version of ipkg that came with 3.5.3 iirc -> file versions that contain cvs (or something like that) were not correctly compared.

Assuming you're installing from the 3.5.3 feed just run ipkg (from the command line) with -force-depends to force the install despite the apparent version problems.
