Looking To Buy A Used/refurbed Z
« on: February 04, 2006, 09:09:31 pm »
My attempts to obtain a C1000 at a price I can afford have fallen through ... so now I'm looking at a C760 or C860. Which of these is more usable in the real world with Cacko 1.23? I'll be using it for PIM, wireless surfing, ebook reading, comix reading, carrying family pictures, and watching movie clips. I can just afford a C860 from PriceJapan.

Also on those lines, how big a card would I need to flash Cacko 1.23 onto my "new" machine? I've got  32MB CF and a 64 MB SD.

AFAIK, the 760 and 860 are identical.  The colors are different, and the 860 came with some extra software in the box but that's it.

The 64 meg card is definately big enough for the Cacko installer.  If you ever want to do a NAND backup or restore, you'll need a 256 meg or bigger CF card.

Thanks, DrWowe; I guess it's just a matter of which is available for how much, then. I see  C860s at PriceJapan for cheaper (including shipping) than the C760s at Conics.net. Of course I'll have to flash to Cacko myself, but big deal, I'd have to flash Conics' anyway.

Is there an English conversion available for the standard Japanese ROM on the 860, or should I just get ready to flash it once it gets here?

Nemmine, I found Conics' English conversion guide.

I'll sell you my 5500 ... it's working, already flashed to the most versatile Sharp ROM (3.13), and comes with a nifty neoprene pouch from thepouch.com, an extra battery handconverted by Lauter ... and I'm letting it go cheap 'cause the flipcover broke and the CF slot-protector fell on to the subway tracks. $100  including shipping. Original software CD and USB cradle included too, of course.

It's really more fun to play with one of these and make up your mind about whether you really really want more Zaurus, fairly cheaply, before you commit to a later model.

I pretty much want anything with VGA.  That is a nice deal but I can find decent SL-5500 on ebay for $130 with more.

That is good advise, it's what I did.

Someone should buy all the US ones that are $100 and bring them to the UK where you can get $200 for them on eBay.

How much are you willing to buy a C-1000?

My Z is in pretty good condition to excellent condition with light scuff marks on the side which dont bother me at all. The screen is perfect, keyboard is perfect, it all runs great.   It already has a screenprotector from brando and have an extra streamline screenprotector for the new zaurus.  The screen has no scratches at all.

So why am I selling it?

I'm thinking of updating to a c-3100 just to store music when I go jogging.  I figure I would sell it and because I was going to  buy a 4gb compact disk anywho!  I figure , "lets make it Internal."

you can pretty much trust me cuz i run zaurusvideo, zaurusthemes, and have been posting here for the longest time.  I did try and sell my sl-5500 months ago and a few sd and cf cards but nobody was really interested.  My sl-5500 all works fine but the frame/body just has had it and needs a new replacement.  C1000 is fine.

Well, if any of you is going to China, then you can get a 760 or 860 (not sure which one it was) for 3500 yuen. I just watched an ad on satellite TV which lasted a whopping 15 minutes advertising the Z. They also claimed they had 20,000 units in stock.
