patience...I must be paitent...smack head with old ipaq...repeat

I'm dying out here...Mickey started the build on the 8th, it's now the 16th...does it take that long to build it?

any ideas when it will be available?

Also, someone put together a vmware build environment.  I was interested in a knoppix like build environment.  Here's a funding idea... I would pay $20 for a CD(or DVD) of the distribution and build environment.  Heck I'd buy that every release just to have them.  That would give the dev's a little more moola and us dialup users a little more sanity.  Any comments?

The images have been finished on tuesday, it's the world that is still going... we have 2900 (two thousand and nine hundred) bitbake files in the repository which are going to emit over 10000 ipkgs, so - yes, it's really taking that long.

Actually it would've taken less if my build workstation wasn't freezing every couple of hours. I'm afraid the hardware is dying... :/

Anyway, it looks like it's getting done in the next 24 hours, that means weekend play time for you impatient souls
Cheers,

Another option would be to split the feed as is, upload the images, announce the release and finish the feeds during the weekend.

What do you need Mickeyl? I'm sure between us all we could chip in what spare parts we have and get you a new build machine ;-)

I agree...what do you need...

(You know, I'd buy OZ if it was "polished".  That would make history wouldn't it?  The first PDA OS that is completely independent of the PDA manufacturer.)

It'd be cool to do what, say, Mozilla, Debian, RedHat, etc', have been doing for a while now.  You can order 'pressed' CDs for just a little more than the cost of the CD+S&H.     In this case, you would get images for all models (GPE and Opie) plus the contents of all the current OZ feeds.  If there was a decent OZ manual around, a printed and bound copy of that would be awesome.

And yeah, the idea of distributing live-CDs with OE ready to go is also a really sweet idea.  Heck, throw in a manual for OE too and I'll order one tonight.  :-P

For Opie there is a manual: http://opie.handhelds.org/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/Documentation

For GPE there is a manual: http://gpe.handhelds.org/documentation.phtml

And there's the openzaurus wordpad wiki (you must register) which could bring together things that are specific to the Zaurus. There was a thread a while back where we tried to get people interested in contributing to documentation: https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10775

and there are the pinned HowTo threads I started to glean knowledge about syncing and usb connections which could also be usefully reorganised and placed on openzaurus.org if anyone has some spare time.

Absolutely - we're working on that! It's what we want to accomplish with the new Ângström project.

Unfortunately not yet, but ... sheesh... don't tell anyone... I will start working on an full-fledged OpenEmbedded book as soon as I submitted my thesis paper.

Status update:
- images built
- packages built & uploaded to target system

Now I'm working on splitting over 11 thousands of packages into usable feeds.

Whole OZ 3.5.4 release is already 1.9GiB of data.

Expect release during weekend.
