5500 Dead?
« on: February 08, 2006, 02:31:14 pm »
Hi, after OZ/GPE flash i get stucked with OZ logo on top (nothing after that...).
D+P shows Boot Flag 3.13, CF/RAM/battery tests seem ok.

flash check sum: NG - csum=a3c9, sum=eed4

Any hope / hints on whats going on/how to revive Z?
Tnx

Double check md5sum of image which you used to flash. Looks like you flashed kernel but not initrd (rootfs).

I've had luck following these steps:
    *Let the Zaurus cool off
*Flash with an original Sharp image
    *Make sure everything works
    *Flash with OZ again[/li]
Don't know why but I've had my 5500 refuse to display anything except both lights would come on still when I'd flash. Repeated flashing with OZ didnt' fix anything until flashing once with a Sharp image. And I know I didn't have a corrupt image.

I have just tried that and I'm unable to power Z on.
Once I power it up, battery light go off, screen remains unlit.

Flashing now takes ~ 1 minute and I remember it taking a bit longer normally. As if it is not flashing it completely.

Thanks for any help.

The battery light coming on and going off once I plug in power but no image ever on screen was what mine was doing.

Probably a dumb question but...You don't have the initrd.bin or zImage still on the CF right? Just Ospack right?

Are you using a CF card that you've used succesfully in the past to flash with? I hear that some cards don't always work(especially for flashing).

Another dumb question...you do have the ac adapter plugged in right? My ac cord came out of the power brick while I was trying to flash once. It seemed to flash(several times) but would never power up.

and check name - it has to be OSPACK - not OsPack or Ospack or ospack etc.

Thanks for your replies,

The file is OSPACK (the only file on a 256MB FAT16 CF I used to flash succesfully before)
and it is 16.777.216 bytes (16.384 KB). File is in CF root, no other files/folders there.

The power cord is always plugged in while flashing - indicated by the orange battery icon.

While flashing both green and orange leds are lit for about one minute (used to be more than 1 minute before).

Once both leds go off, i reset the unit, put cover on battery and put unit in normal operation mode.

When turned on, battery led goes off and thats about it

Update:

I have tried putting tKrom 2.0 (initrd.bin) and flashing still takes ~1 min., but I get OZ logo again and its hanging there...

Putting zImage and initrd.bin from old version of OZ gives the same results.
Shouldn't flashing take ~3 mins?

Tnx

I'm running out of suggestions here....

Try pulling the battery out and disconnecting the ac adapter for a couple of minutes then try to flash with the OSPACK.

Hello,

I don't remeber which OZ version was it when this happened.
So far I have tried GPE 3.5.2, 3.5.3 (zImage 32/32) and it seems whichever I try OZ logo appears and a blinking cursor beneath it. Only OSPACK gives totally black screen.
Pulling the battery out and disconnecting the ac adapter for a couple of minutes gives same results.

Is there a way for me to find out where the boot process fails and why flashing takes only ~1 minute? I'd send Z to Sharp by now if it was an option...

Thank you all for your support.

Maybe try to search the forum for flashing problems. There are a lot of discussions concerning this topic.

Some things not mentioned yet:
- reformating the CF card with FAT16 once more
- unzip the initrd.bin directly to the card
- eliminating the battery for more then 24h
- using only kernel 64-0
- pressing the hard reset button
....
but there are a lot more

good luck
