Planex Wlan Card And Wpa On Cacko Problems
« on: February 18, 2006, 06:37:45 am »
Hi,

I have a Planex WIFI CF card (GW-CF11X) under Cacko full 1.23 on a Zaurus SL-C1000.

I am able to connect to many WEP wireless networks but I have never been able to connect to a WPA TKIP network. So the card works.

I followed the instruction in this forum fro WPA connection:

https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10699

by editing the wlan-ng.opts file and add WPA=y and the wpa_supplicant.conf file and added my SSID, scan_ssid=y and the psk.

So I think I did everything as instructed, rebooted several times and I still can no connect to a WPA TKIP network.

Anybody was succesfull in connecting to WPA under Cacko using the Planex CF card?

If so what did you do?

How about the hostap.conf file, should I aslo edit that conf file?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bernard

Planex Wlan Card And Wpa On Cacko Problems
« Reply #2 on: February 19, 2006, 06:16:54 am »
Hi,

From the previous posting, when I do:

iwlist wlan0 encryption
or
iwlist qpewlan0 encryption

I get
no encryption keys information

but with
iwlist wifi0 encryption

I get a listing like in your previous post, but no Encryption capabilities.

When I do:
iwlist wlan0 scan or iwlist wifi0 scan
I get something about driver version 18 should be used instead of driver version 16.

Which driver is it refering to?

When I look into dmesg I see:

wifi0: hfa384x_cmd_issue: cmd reg was busy for 5000 usec
wifi0: hfa384x_cmd_issue - timeout - reg=0x8888
wifi0: hfa384x_cmd: entry still in list? (entry=c0da3ce0, type=0, res=-1)
wifi0: hfa384x_cmd: interrupted; err=-110
wifi0: hfa384x_get_rid: CMDCODE_ACCESS failed (res=-110, rid=fd51, len=6)

and using hostap_diag wlan0 (or wifi0):

ioct[PRISM2_IOCTL_HOSTAPD]: Connection timed out
Could not communicate with the kernel driver.

when I do ifconfig -a I get 2 wifi devices listed
wifi0 and wlan0

But I only have the one CF wlan card!!!

As far as I know this card has no flash firmware. Is the hostap driver only for flash firmware card.

Which driver that will make the WPA work on the planex GW-CF11X should be installed. I baught that card because it was supported by the Sharp original rom and the new Cacko 1.23 rom and it is supposed towork with WPA but obviously it does not.

Any hint?

Thanks,

Bernard

Looks like your kernel have only WE16 - WPA support need WE18. OpenZaurus 3.5.4 will provide WE18 enabled kernels for all machines.

I have exactly the same card and ROM and have tried the same procedures. Were you ever able to get this working with WPA? Kismet, Wellenreiter and WEP connections work fine. Thanks.

Hi, you mention you are able to connect to many wep wireless networks, I have an open network restricted by MAC address and have never been able to connect to any network (but i think the card works), did you made anything to make it work in wep networks? Did you find a way to make WPA work? I have the same cacko 1.23, zaurus 1000, planex card

Hi,

I did not do anything special. After installing Cacko 1.23 on my Zaurus 1000, I just set up the WEP network configuration using the Network icon in the Settings tab and entered the SSID info and saved the setting.

I have also a Open Network with MAC address restriction and it works fine. I had to enter the hex key to make it work, not the passphrase.

However if you try connecting once and it does not work, there is a bug in Cacko or the prism 3 driver that the card does not work a second time, you need to remove the card and plug it again so the card is active again and then you can connect to a WEP network.

I could never make the WPA work because Cacko 1.23 use a Kernel that does not include the Wireless Extension 18 which contains WPA support. So for WPA to work at least with the Planex card you will need until an upgraded version of the Kernel is available that includes WE18.

Thanks you very much for all the info!

The card is now running (but couldn't really say what made it fail before! )
