This is the main flaw I see in qpsword. Try pressing your stylus on the body of the text, (where the bible verses are) and holding it down. A menu should then pop up and then you can select from whatever you have installed. It's a little tricky at first, but once you get the feel of it, it's not too bad.

I would recommend the NET Bible.

The NIV was originally contracted as a HS-age translation but when they
discovered churches were using them as pew rack Bibles they discontinued
mention of that.

There are many "in order to simplify" compromises made in the NIV that round
the edges of complete accuracy for the sake of a less challenging read for HS
students.

The NET is a very modern translation that is also very readable and it
educates the reader who chooses to refer to the included translator's
notes about the shades of meaning that challenge translators.

Most of the other free translations are very old and suffer from no-longer-
accurate English dialects or are biased toward a peculiar theological philosophy.

I've been working on a piece of software with similar functionality to plucker desktop but which isn't so heavily tied to the palm format (leading to poor compression) or to python (making it too slow to run on the Zaurus). As a quick test I decided to run the Net Bible though it (but not on the Zaurus - that wouldn't work on my SL5000 8^). I've ended up with a file 4.6MB in size with reasonably fast random access (especially when you consider that decompression happens on the fly to save on memory and disk space).

It should work with the latest version of opie-reader (or I can supply my latest stable version if it doesn't) but I have no way of hosting/sending it to anyone. If anyone does want it and can allow me temporary access to ftp the file to them (especially if they can host the file afterwards if anyone else is interested) by all means PM or mail me (timwentford AT hotmail DOT com). Or can I upload it here (if there is sufficient interest)?

You do lose the frames but everything else seems intact. And opening the file is a bit slow.

I tried uploading it here but nothing seems to happen. It's probably too big since I can upload smaller files. I've a couple of other things I can try.

I tried ELSI but that isn't letting me upload, either. One more thing to try....

I had a brainwave. I zipped the file first and I'm allowed to upload zipped files.

Unzip it and you'll get netbible.7.128.J10.rb which you can open up in opie-reader - if it doesn't work, post here and I'll put my version of opie-reader up which definitely has all the updates necessary to read it.

The key to the filename is obsucre and you don't really need to understand it, but for the curious:

7 = 3.5MB decompression buffer required (make this smaller and the file size goes up)
128 = 128kb per compression block - larger is better for compression but worse random access performance. The optimum value for the previous caule increases as you increase this.
J10 = lump 10 pages together in each compression block - larger gives better compression (subject to the 128), smaller gives better random access. (Note this does not affect how the pages are displayed - they are still separate pages).

This last value was the key to getting the performance up - I'd lumped everything into one block which meant the entire index needed to be decompressed at start up - and there are a *lot* of links in the Net Bible 8^).

If you find the performance acceptable and want a smaller file. let me know - or vice versa, of course.

Zaurus is larger than pocket bibles, lol.

Because not only priests read the Bible. The Bible is the only book that I need to have on my person at all times and it makes Zaurus the perfect companion. Having search functionality is the next big feature.

I have something very similar actually. Sort of the Non-Christian version.

2 programs, which I found via my GPRS card, while bored in physics.

the Particle Database Groups guide to Elementary particles (zPDG)
and a Periodic Table of Elements (zElement)

Atheistic Porta-bible.

And actually, being that this is 2006, I can QUITE see a priest reading from the holy e-Book.

I'd rather see that worldwide, than see someone install . . |shudders|

the Zaurus HN6000 runs Windows CE. (yeah, the Evil twin of the SL-6000N)
AND Sharp have OEM'd it to Hitachi.

crosswire has zaurus ipks and many, many Bible versions. Also can get a dictionary, strongs greek and hebrew referece books -linked to KJV (didn't try the other versions), and more.

I like the search features - but if it doesn't retrieve one result (like you misspell King Nebuchaneezar), mine quits the program. Just a little annoying.

Otherwise works great. Just explore crosswire.org - I found great stuff there.
