Here is my mod of my zaurus! It has a external antenna plug and extra 10000mAh battery for long lasting.

I moded my WCF-12, Then I builded a battery with antenna mount together. With 4 x Sanyo 2500mah Rechargable Battery. The battery life last for a long time. The main problem is the antenna is not really good. I will get a good one later.

How did you modify the WCF-12?
Did you have instructions? I am interested in doing a similar modification, but I don't know where to start.

can you run your cf wifi now without the antenna ?? (using internal)

yes it can run without the antenna, but the signal is not good. Coz I broke the internal antenna. Luckly, it still works. However the signal drop to 50%.

yeah that's somewhat amazing that its picking up signal with the pcb track and circuitry !

Extra battery?

Ok I found this thing laying around, and was wondering if it would work if I get some rechargables and put them in. Dont want to fry anything!!!

I'd be careful with that, if I were you. The Z is expecting regulated 5VDC, IIRC. You're using regular alkaline cells at 1.5V per cell: 1.5 X 4 = 6V.

I've been thinking about building a battery pack, but I was planning to throw in some sort of voltage regulator circuit. Actually, I was just checking out Digi-Key a couple days ago to see what kind of battery holders they have. I still need to figure out what would be my best option for a voltage regulator... I don't have a lot of experience with electronics. Maybe one of the electronics hackers could offer up a suggestion for that.

careful, the common 7805 dosnt provide regulation at around 6v or less, look for a low drop out regulator (try maxim and get a free product sample)

I can do the soldering. I just never actually studied electronics and I'm not familiar with the different IC options out there. I end up spending so much time reviewing spec sheets and "decrypting" them that I tend to put a project down and it just gathers dust.

I figured I'd do a little research and then wire up a breadboard to do some testing before I actually plugged anything into the Z. I guess that means I'd have to figure out what kind of load to simulate, too. Don't know the typical current that the Z draws.

If you're willing to offer up some ideas or direction, I'm all ears. Maxim is an electronics supplier, I assume? I'm more familiar with the magazine, myself.
