Bricked? Or Not...
« on: March 09, 2006, 10:48:07 pm »
Hello all,

I was... up until yesterday a happy c1000 owner.
I have had in the past some trouble with the battery... but after that i got 3 brand new batteries.
Now lets get to the problem:
I left the z plugged for a quite few days closed... and someday recently, i looked at  it and saw no light. So i went and tried to turn it on... nothing....
Tried changing the batteries.. no effect...
The charger seems to work i think(it's an ea-70, and i got a small jolt from touching it with my tongue(i know this isnt proper measurement, but it's all i have atm)

So i'm wondering... am i missing anything?
should i be pressing something else than the power button? something else than changing the battery and relocking the bay? Anyway to see if it's the charger circuit that died?

NOTE: i am not totally sure the charger was actually on for all these days... it might have been off for quite some time

Thanks for any help,

Paul Cahier

When you unplug the charger from the Z and plug it back in again, do you see the orange charging light? if so, just let it charge again for about half and hour and your Z should turn on again.
It probably was charged fully, then the charger turned off automatically after a full charge, and the battery just slowly discharged over the days you let it sit there.
It happens to me sometimes because I have two Zauri and when I go on a trip, I sometimes leave one of them behind so when I come back, it won't turn on anymore until I recharge it again.

Hi Paul,

a Zaurus needs a minimum charge in the battery to start.
So if you leave it for a few days untouched, it will completely
drain the battery power.

Even if you plug in the charger, it won't boot until it has
charged for about 5 minutes. Give it a bit time on AC and
it should boot normally.

never never do that to any such sensitive electronics. EA70 or not, doesn't matter...  ok this is trivial but..

"such sensitive" is the keyword i guess:(
the z seems to be unusually fragile :/(my old ipaq was such a tank...)
i simply forgot to take it from my work place and went to holidays... oh well ><

Except for this incident when smoke came out of the back of my C3000 and I had to return it to Japan for replacement, I had had no problems with the Z. I was able to trace this problem back to a faulty usb sync cable. The problem has not reoccured after I threw the faulty cable in the trash.
So as long as you don't see smoke coming from your Zaurus or it smells like it has burnt, then it should be able to be revived somehow. Maybe do a rain dance

I think my z died because of the usb cable also.
While i was transfering file from my laptop to my 3100, something wrong happened.
Now, charging led is on when i plug the adapter and that's all...  Cannot open service mode, cannot turn on...
Next week i will send it to japan for repairing. Im not sure if it is under warranty because i bought it 2nd hand (the ex-owner bought it from etrend.co.jp last Nov/Dec). It comes with a lot of *papers* but they are in japanese
Hope i do not have to pay as much as a new one. Haizz..

Fn+D+M bypasses the NAND loader to get straight to the Service Menu. Worth a try.
currently:  SL-C860 Cacko 1.23 ROM converted to full Japanese
formerly: SL-C1000 Cacko 1.23 ROM converted to full Japanese
Sony WL100 wifi CF card (handed down from old Clie)
A-Data 60X 2GB SD card loaded with Super Daijirin, Green Goddess5, NJECD and Eijiro
