Where Do People In Japan Go For Support?
« on: March 13, 2006, 05:38:10 pm »
I know a lot of people with Zauruses in Japan have purchased Picsel Browser for Zaurus.
Where do they go for technical questions?
It doesn't seem like many people here use it.
I think Picsel Browser has it's own method of doing things.
Below is what I'm trying to do, but what I really need is a site or url, that is
specific to Picsel Browser.
Once I locate such a site, I'll use the various translators to read posts, or technical details.

I've been trying to associate *.pdf with Picsel Browser.
I've tried many different methods. I've read Meanie's site and other places about MimeTypes.
I can make a PDF launch Picsel Browser when clicking on a PDF in a filemanager,
but this only launches Picsel Browser. It doesn't open the PDF file. I have to open
it manually, just like I would launching Picsel Browser from the icon, then opening the file.

Thank you,
Jon

Really? I haven't seen any stores that even carry it... I had to special order my copy.

You can try asking on the 2ch mobile forum, though it's Japanese only: http://pc8.2ch.net/mobile/

I think Picsel Browser has it's own method of doing things.
Picsel Browser is available on many platforms, and is not specific to Qt/E. Picsel seems to have taken their base software and modified it just enough to work with the Qt/E display system.

From the command line, you can run 'pic-browser' followed by the complete (absolute) path to the file to open it. Perhaps you can use this somehow to do what you want. Note, though, that using this method when a copy of Picsel Browser is already running causes my Z's GUI to lockup, so be warned.

ashikase,
Thank you for the information.
At Sharp Life Plaza, it's said to be a best seller. Bottom left of this page.
http://www.kutikomi.ne.jp/
I also have read somewhere else that they have sold out of Picsel Browser for Zaurus,
due to demand.
And a couple of weeks ago, at Sharp Life Plaza, they were having a "Special"
They were offering, for very low price, or giving away,
Picsel Browser on the 256mb card with a purchase of a C3100 or C3000.
That's the previous size of SD card. It is now on a 512mb card.

I also have seen a different version that has been hacked to work on a Palm.
It was liberated from a Chinese Samsung phone.
Some ppl hex edited the Chinese and replaced it with English.
There was also an accelerator designed to make it run faster on a Palm, (with it's limited memory).

Here's 2 different manuals in English for anyone who wants to read them.
These are NOT the manuals for Picsel Browser for Zaurus.
There are a lot of similarities in these 2 manuals to Picsel Browser for Zaurus.

1. Picsel Browser User Guide [Motorla A768i].doc (in zip file)
2. Picsel Viewer for Sony Clie.pdf (viewer, not the complete browser)

I don't always take a seller at their word...

If it was sold out, how did they have stock to give away? (?_?)

Don't get me wrong, I think Picsel Browser is a good product, and it might well be that a lot of people have bought it. However, I wish it wasn't tied to the SD card (a reason often cited for not purchasing it), and I wish that I could get it to run on something other than the default Sharp (and Cacko) ROM.

Thank you Meanie, that's the manual that comes with the SD card. I tried to translate it with Google, but it didn't work.

Sharp is no longer selling these through the Kutikomi shop so the linked Original Japanese Manual is no longer there. I have attached an archived copy of it to this post in case someone needs it.
I think I'm coming down with what kahm's got!  I now have 3 Zaurii in house!  ;)
