How do you know for sure?

I think it is not specifically made for the Zaurus but for Mobile Phones - going WLAN integrated. But there is hope it finds its way into a Zaurus. 10x10x1.6mm is really small.

I don't know for sure, but neither does he. mandjab expressed his opinion, but somehow I don't share his optimistic approach. I wish he's right, but we'll see at the end of the road.

I hope he's right as well, but I have a feeling that the Zaurus has pretty much reached a plateau and the W-Zero3 platform is the one Sharp will push as their wireless handheld solution.

I agree. If Sharp was so capable of desiging anytype of WLAN logic, why neglect the Zaurus line C series entirely from the 700 to 3200? Almost 6 iterations and not one included 802.11.

I think there are about two ways to get wifi into a stock zaurus:

1.  Sharp starts selling them in the US again, or another country where wifi is spreading like wildfire.

2.  Wifi spreads like wildfire in Japan.

Until then, Sharp really has no reason to put Wifi into a Zaurus.

However, that little module is nifty as hell

Well, the Z was the first thing I thought of when I saw that. Sadly, I don't believe that Sharp will ever equip the Z with WiFi without some sort of strong, external prompting.

perhaps the popularity of the PSP and it's inclusion of wifi will be a nudge in the right direction?

Well if the US had reliable GPRS-based broadband that was cheap and common in hardware for mobile platforms, and if the US wasnt so damn huge, maybe the need for wifi wouldnt have been so gigantic. In the future when 3G eventually proliferates and gets really cheap we'll be writing drivers for our CF GPRS radios instead.
Japan has had their fun little packet radio services for a while now. It helps that 90% of the population lives in less than ten cities, and the island itself is tiny compared to the continent.

Of course an integrated GPRS/GSM/3g radio in a PDA is a loooong way away, and probably will never happen due to the 15000 RF cellular standards in the USA. Oh well!

I can think of several GPRS/GSM/3g PDA phones, the HTC is one if i remeber corectly

as i see it the mobile phone class of wifi (GPRS/GSM/3g) is error prone and unreliable for data, which is fine for stuff like websites but not voip/gaming but very relible for voice (data was taked on) whereas wifi is data first

dont forget that GPRS/GSM/3g is a service where as wifi is a consumer soulution, it is expected that the end user provides the services (ie internet network)

for GPRS/GSM/3g just use a GPRS/GSM/3g phone and connect it to the serial port/usb, instant mobile zaurus
