Nand Restore Format Error
« on: March 15, 2006, 07:32:00 pm »
Hi all -
i have a 'bricked' zaurus but i am lucky enough to be in the D+M+Reset button menu mode.  I have tried both a PXA250 and a PXA255 SYST5600.DBK NAND restore image and both fail with:

Restore....failed
format error

has anoyone seen this before?  ive tried multiple CF cards and a SD card as well as a DBK from a 250 and a DBK from a 255... i always get this error.  i'm pretty sure if i shutdown now i will totally hose myself since its probably deleted the NAND but been unable to write it back...

anyone have suggestions or help?  i'd love to be able to use my Zaurus again
thanks!

EDIT: one thing i forgot... i *was* able to take a NAND Backup of the current image and Restore it (although this is basically useless, it shows that the it *can* be writtten right?)

Based on this old thread https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2897&hl=nand :

A NAND Restore process is in two parts. First the existing NAND is erased, and then the new NAND image is written. The "format error" message apparently means the NAND erase part was unsuccessful (for whatever reason).
So you need to manually erase the NAND flash fully, before executing the NAND Restore.
There should be  "NAND Flash Full Erase" option somewhere in your Zaurus' Service Menu.

disclaimer: I've never had to do a NAND full erase, and I take no responsibility/blame for the above suggestion. But in your case how much worse can it get.

Good luck.

Hello,

I had such a probleme (resolved somewhere in OE forum). Did you tried to format your memory card under a DOS command ? Was a success for me.

Good luck

Have you tried a different image?

In the current thread "Best rom for SL-5600?" There is a link to a site containing backups for both 250 and 255 chips.

Try one of those!
