There was a lot of discussion on this device when it was forst announced - quite sometime back.

Now if only we get to actually see the product come to market (of course not the US market - we don't hope for such miracles) !

Really? When was that? I saw it the first time today.
What's the history? Only an announcement or some details?
It will be available in July they said.

Since it's a quad-band phone with also 1900 MHz it would fit the US market. 1900 MHz is not used anywhere in Europe as fasr as I know.

Just one problem. It only has *viewers* for office apps. That's no use to me as I use my Z to update Excel spreadsheets all the time.

I had the honor to play with a preproduction model when I was @ FOSDEM. It looks and feels pretty good - much more "precious" than I had expected by looking at the photos.

As a phone, it just works - with a good sound.
As a PDA, it's just cool - the landscape resolution gets some time to get used to, but the UI has been designed to take this into account.

The keyboard is very good for that size - feels a bit like on a Psion Revo. Display very bright and fairly readable in sunlight. Speed ok - about the same as on a clamshell Zaurus.

The OS felt rock solid, there's a recent kernel 2.6 underneath and ROAD patched the guts out of Qtopia 2.x to make it work

To my knowledge, we will be able to write applications for it. On the preproduction I already spotted some Opie apps

In short, it's recommended and will be my first Linux phone.
(No, I couldn't keep the device )

Probably Textmaker can be installed on it. Hopefully a Planmaker / Zaurus will be available then, too, which can be installed.

Well, can those QT-based Zaurus apps be installed on a QTopia 2.x device with 640x240 resolution without problems?

If so, also hancom Office should be installable, so you have the same applications as on the Zaurus.

Will we also be able to use the old Zaurus applications?
I think this phone/PDA will be quite expensive, so not all developers will immediately buy one to port their applications to it.
I rely on daily usage of StageOne, KDEPIM/PI and some other Zaurus VGA / Qtopia 1.x apps...

that's a pretty thin screen.  I wonder how usefull having half the resolution of vga will be.
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens

Last year's GSM Congress in Cannes. I sent them a mail last year but did not get any response. But there seems to be some progress now.

What I don't like is the 640x240 display. Should be 640x480...
